Originally released in the US in 2007 for the PS2 (and subsequently re-released a year later in a director's cut "FES" version), Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 took the RPG world by storm with its quick battle system, social interaction dynamic and stylish presentation. Now, three years later, Atlus offers us a pretty faithful portable version of this fantastic gem. As a new student at Gekkoukan High, you find yourself witnessing some strange nighttime happenings. This is the Dark Hour, a secret hour of the day when people are transmogrified into coffins, completely unaware of time passing, and Shadows roam the world. As someone who stays awake during the Dark Hour, you find yourself joining the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES) with some classmates, determined to stop the Shadow forces. Persona 3 is essentially a dungeon crawler, as much of action takes place within the randomized Tartarus. The battle system is fast, and rewards players for doing well. New to this version of Persona 3 is the option to directly control your cohorts in battle. A major aspect of battle is Persona, an ability which summons a manifestation of the inner self by shooting an Evoker pistol into one's head. These Personas can level up, gain new abilities and even be fused together to create even more powerful Personas. By day, you play the role of a normal student; going to class, making friends, going to activities and generally hanging out. There's only so much time in the day ...
