Controlling a 4-story pipe organ with the Kinect
In this video I briefly explain and demonstrate how I used the Kinect to control the massive Melbourne Town Hall Organ. It contains a short excerpt from our performance "Carpe Zythum" November 2011. My project blog: chrisvik.wordpress.com I've created my own software "Kinectar" (http which allows the use of the Kinect to control MIDI devices, ie. playing notes through simple gestures and motion. The Melbourne Town Hall Organ got a referb in the late 90s adding the ability of MIDI messages to active the notes... and so, this happened. Here we see a 1969 EH Holloway pipe organ of 24 ranks. I show inside the chambers and demonstrate the tonal colors. The air pressure is 3 inches of water. Chorales I played include Was Gott Tut, Das Ist Wohlgetan, and Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Ehren. Pipe Organ Museum & Gallery in the Ballroom @ Longwood Gardens [HD 720p]
This is the "Behind the Pipes" museum tour in the back room of the Ballroom in the Conservatory at Longwood Gardens (Kennett Square, Pennsylvania). After the organ show, we went in the back room where we saw the huge organ pipes that were making the sounds the organist was making when he was playing. And the back room is the museum of just about everything organ-related. If you're ever nearby, go there, you'll be amazed. And wear your walking shoes, the place is huge! There are 1077 acres with 20 indoor and 20 outdoor gardens. For the physically challenged, they have wheelchairs and electric scooters for rent, but they're free if you're a garden pass holder. The most prog rock-infused pipe organ performance that I've ever heard in a Mass - it and the Notre Dame University Liturgical Choir blew me away last Easter Sunday. Can someone give credit here to the pipe organist unbeknownst to me? The pipe organ is a Holtkamp tracker (three manuals, forty stops), and trumps the most amped-up electric guitar or bass for sheer body and space-shaking power, I believe. This is Richard Elliott playing the magnificent Conference Center organ in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah for the 2011 Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra Annual Christmas Concert. The arrangement titled "Shepherd's Dance" was written and performed by Tabernacle Organist, Dr. Richard Elliott. All rights and privileges belong to the respective artists and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Schoenstein Organ at the Conference Center is a pipe organ built by Schoenstein & Co., San Francisco, California located in the Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. The organ was completed in 2003. It is composed of 160 speaking stops spread over five manuals and pedals. Along with the nearby Salt Lake Tabernacle organ, it is typically used to accompany the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The Conference Center organ is heard at the Church's semi-annual General Conference, and at other performances throughout the year. The organ is about two-thirds the size of the Salt Lake Tabernacle organ in terms of the number of pipes. GREENSLEEVES - 1889 Tracker Pipe Organ with Handbells
1889 Whalley & Genung tracker pipe organ, refurbished by Puget Sound Pipe Organs of Seattle, WA. Dedication recital by Mark Andersen, Lynn Andersen, Corentin Porkorny and family on October 23, 2011. The organ was built for an Oakland, CA church later moved to a Visalia, CA church in 1930. It was moved to Washington state in the early 70's and later installed in its present home, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Des Moines, WA. It has been fully refurbished and brought back to a state somewhat closer to it's roots after a misguided attempt to "Baroque-ize" it by the installer who was under the influence of the neo-baroque movement of that time. The casework (lost in the move of 1930) has been restored adding back in the outer towers with its 8 Open Diapason pipes. Pipes that has been lost in the alterations are replaced by period or new matching pipework. Pipes moved during the ill-concieved alterations are restored to their correct placements. The facade pipe stenciling is still in unrestored condition pending future work. Elisa has been taking piano lessons since November of 2011....She has been playing on a piano, and casio keyboard...Elisa's teacher has noticed a natural talent, and has been giving her harder pieces to play..she is working on Bach's tocatta...her teacher wanted her to experience, then play, the Allen pipe organ at his church, and invited us all to watch and enjoy!... so after 4 practice runs under his guidence, Elisa was told to play with no help, and did a great job! She still has to 'grow into' the cosole, as she had to scoot to the end of the bench to reach the D pedal! Thank you to her school teacher, who is also her music teacher, who goes above and beyond his teaching duties, to make sure any student that wants to learn music and play an instrument, has the chance to do so..

The Forster & Andrews organ installed here in 1864,this poor old girl needs a awful lot of love & attention & lots of money spent on her to get her back to tip top condition,very small congregation here,cant see it happening sadly,it was a challenge to play re- lots of notes not working or sounding as they should,esp pedal notes,the 15ft was out of tune,cornopean hardly working at all ! this organ doesnt even get a basic tune once or twice a year & the last time that happened according to the tuning & maintenance book was back in 1993 ! the organ is used occasionally plus they use a keyboard as well ! I live about 15mins from here so hopefully will be back again very soon. Many Thanks to Mrs Di Webber church council secretary & Mrs Vivian Hocking chapel steward.

Meditation for Pipe Organ-Church of the Epiphany, Pittsburgh
Dear all, In preparation for my upcoming organ recital on January 29, I visited the Church of Epiphany in Pittsburgh one more time to do a final rehearsal and practice session. Even though I only went to practice, I still decided to take my camera along and I did a couple more recordings at the end of today's session. The music you hear in this video is a meditation based on a theme by Dutch organist Martin Mans, combined with one of my favourite hymns from the Hungarian Baptist Hymnal. The original title is 'Bűneid ha bántnak téged' ('If sins trouble you'). Not sure if there is an English version....if so, please let me know so that I can change the title accordingly. Please note that even though I had the musical idea for this piece for a while now, it was first played when I recorded it. Hope you'll enjoy!
