This is the final scene in the film directed by Ralph Nelson. It's the scene where Homer Smith, played by Sidney Poitier leaves Mother Maria, played by Lilia Skala after building them a chapel. After taking one last look at the chapel he built, Smith, knowing that his work is done, slips into his car and drives quietly off into the night. www.imdb.com

GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER — ReThink Review

Guess who's coming to dinner, America? BLACK PRESIDENT! Well, half-black, anyway. With Barack Obama's historic inauguration, a half-black man will, in many ways, be joining the families of millions of not-black Americans in a way that our nation has never experienced before. So that seemed like the perfect time for me to see, for the very first time, Stanley Kramer's groundbreaking, Oscar-winning 1967 classic, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, a film about what happens when a white couple gets the surprising news that Dr. John Wade Prentice, an esteemed black doctor with the World Health Organization (played by Sidney Poitier), will literally be joining their family when he marries their young daughter, who he has only known for ten days. "No Way Out" (1950) is a black-and-white film noir directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, and starring Richard Widmark, Linda Darnell, Stephen McNally, and Sidney Poitier. "No Way Out" earns its place in the history books thanks to the searing feature film debut of Sidney Poitier, offering a formidable performance as a doctor tending to slum residents whose ethics are tested when confronted with racism, personified by Richard Widmark as the hateful robber Ray Biddle.

POITIER, Sidney: "... I think of myself as a MAN!"

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner (1967) Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, This part: Conversation between John and his father; the issue of interratial marriage from the other side. Storyline Joey Drayton brings her fiancé, Dr. John Prentice, home to sunny San Francisco to meet her affluent parents. Their liberal persuasions are now put to the test, for although the young man is an ideal choice (he's highly and internationally respected in the medical field, and he's impeccably mannered, handsome, well dressed and of a respectable California family), he's black. The film, which covers one busy day in the Drayton home, is essentially a drawing-room comedy, a series of cross-conversations between the young doctor and the girl's parents, and finally between all sets of parents and offspring. A simple dinner is extended to include the doctor's parents, who fly up from Los Angeles for the evening, and the crusty but benevolent old Irish priest, a friend of the family. Thus, the title of the film . .
