
A man was arrested this afternoon following a nearly 20-minute police chase during which he rammed into two law enforcement vehicles on the Gulf Freeway, authorities said. The chase began after Harris County Precinct 8 deputy constables as well as Houston Police officers responded to a call around 3:49 pm at the Palms Apartments in the 1300 block of Gemini in Clear Lake, where a woman told them her husband had assaulted her, said Precinct 8 Chief Deputy Phil Sandlin. While searching the complex, a deputy constable located the 25-year-old man, whose identity was not released, driving a 2008 silver Honda into the complex, Sandlin said. When the deputy constable identified the man and asked him to step out of the vehicle, he refused and put his car in reverse, nearly striking the deputy and running into an HPD patrol car, Sandlin said. The man fled in his car, first driving into a parking garage and eventually leading authorities onto Bay Area Boulevard before driving north on Gulf Freeway, Sandlin said. During the pursuit, the man rammed his car into the back of an HPD officer's patrol car near Gulf Freeway and Clear Lake City Boulevard, officials said. The collision caused the patrol car to strike the center median and flip over, Sandlin said. The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital.
