Language Hacking tips from Benny the Irish polyglot at TBEX Vancouver

I was invited to speak at TBEX (Travel Blog EXchange) in Vancouver, in front over over 500 people about my language learning techniques. It was my first time ever speaking publicly! Most of the audience are travel writers, and have been around the world but unfortunately most have never learned the local languages where they go. I focused this talk on encouraging them to get the basics. I only got through a third of my notes in the alloted 30 minutes! For more on this see my blog fluentin3months.com

Ep1Pt1 Polyglot Stu Jay Raj - Multilingual Presentation

"Language Secrets From a Linguistic Junkie" This is the first of my personal video posts. This episode is divided into 2 Parts / 2 separate clips. I've tried to answer some of the many questions that have been sent to me in emails and messages since I posted my first clip on Youtube in 2007. I thought to make it interesting, I've tried to choose several different languages to respond to (subtitled in English). Questions include: What separates languages - politic or linguistic differences? What's the history behind some of your languages? What's the most difficult language? What are some secrets to learning new languages? How do I get motivated to learn languages? I've chosen languages that I'm at different competency levels in - and as you can see, it shows! Some of them I hadn't used for a long time - just putting this clip together was great to get the linguistic juices flowing again in some of my dormant languages. I also used as a personal challenge for the first time in public Vietnamese. I put this post public to set a bar for myself - so hopefully in a few months time, my Vietnamese will be much more fluent than what you see in this clip. I'll keep you updated on my progress! Languages that I speak in or about in this episode include: English Bahasa Indonesia Javanese Bahasa Melayu Japanese Chinese - Mandarin Danish

Polyglot Stuart Jay Raj Mnidcraft Morse Code Sign Language Alphabet Song - replay 3 times minimum :)

In Mnidcraft, I like to look at ways of creatively pushing the mind's boundaries. I was in a semi-dream state about a month ago when this concept came to me. I woke up that next morning and jotted the words down. Since then I've tweaked them a little (through subsequent alpha moments^_^). The music is also pretty faithful to my dream. This clip is designed to be watched many times. I've embedded many things in there. For the first few times, just get into the rhythm and copy the one-handed sign alphabet with me. At the same time, you'll be seeing the pictures out of the corner of your eye. It's ok to peek at other things going on on the screen. As you get the words linked into the pictures - which are linked into the letters - which are linked into the rhythm, try to let it all become a part of you. If possible, try NOT to memorise the textual 'dot dash' renderings of the morse code. Just sing the words to the rhythm and you'll have the Morse-code alphabet already. I've thrown some Morse into my solos - both dispersed into the main body of the song and also at the end... test yourself (well actually the answer is right there glaring at you!) see if you can work it out :) I recommend downloading this clip to your iPod and setting it on repeat and listen to it over and over as you're walking around town. You don't have to look at the video the whole time. Just get the rhythms. For more details, swing by my blog - 'Behind the Curtain' - Stuart Jay Raj's Mind Skills and <b>...</b>

Interview with Location Independent Irish Polyglot, Benny Lewis

I had an opportunity to meet up with and interview the charismatic Benny Lewis from Fluentin3Months.com in Budapest recently. Those of you following the location independent and travel blogger crowd will likely already be well acquainted with Benny. His blog and recent language hacking guides have been extremely popular. Currently fluent in 8 languages and proficient in many others, Benny definitely knows what he is talking about. What I admire most about him is the intense focus of his blog and language missions in different countries. Travel, lifestyle design and location independence are all very saturated topics, Benny managed to find an unique angle and he sticks with it. He is the Language Hacker Polyglot.

Why No Grammar? Polyglot's guide

Why is everybody saying they learn foreign languages without grammar? What's up with that? Why can't we use the general structure of grammar as an idea to use a language? I need to have structure to the things I'm learning if I'm going to learn it well.

Self-taught Barnsley polyglot, Carl Dundas, speaks in Italian about Michel Thomas (fifth language)

The Head of Lingua Genesis, Carl Dundas, gives his first ever spontaneous monologue in Italian, just nine months after first starting to learn the language, beginning with the Michel Thomas CDs, which mainly allowed him to master the pronunciation and link the sounds of words and word order with Spanish and French. He speaks of his learning trends, the need to drive oneself to learn, and tells how his knowledge of Spanish and French has helped him to remember words and their spellings, as well as constructing accurate sentences, using a simplified means of expression. This video is accompanied with subtitles and is complemented with an explanation in English in another video about how Dundas progressed with the language.

Very Short Review of The Polyglot Project

PDF: www.docstoc.com Amazon: www.amazon.com In this video, I show off my copy of the Polyglot Project book. I haven't read through it in any great detail yet, so it's only a basic overview, but I would seriously advise investing in the book. By the way, for those of you ordering the book outside of the US - it took just over 2 weeks for it to arrive at my house from Amazon.Com. The website indicated it would take nearly 2 months!!!

Anyone Can Be A Polyglot 10 - Rosetta Stone ARABIC

Please be aware that I have not decided if I will learn Arabic. I am only looking at the language, I have not made any decisions at this time. A lot of people do not like Rosetta Stone because Rosetta Stone makes it a little too easy. There is never any ONE program that works 100 percent. Learning always requires that you regularly use more than one program.
