This poor old hungry lonely possum, the only one of his kind around, and unfortunately in the city, decided that being a possum wasn't paying off. So he decided to try his hand at being a cat. He is not very convincing, but little does he know he is welcome for dinner anyway. He is quite polite for a possum, he doesn't bother the cats, and waits for his dinner. The possum and the cats touched noses, became friends afterwards, and respect each others territory. Possums are not carriers of rabies, as their body temperature is too low to support the virus. The pitched roof in the background belongs to the outdoor cat house, which is about 7 ft tall. It has thermostatically controlled electric baseboard heat,a thermopane window, three floors, wood siding and looks like a small cottage. It has been home to 7 cats for most of the past 14 years. The 3 cats in the picture are the last 3 of the family of 7 that lived in the house I just lost the one in the center the summer of 2010, his name was PJ, and he was 15.. I also lost their mother who was 18 years old a year earlier. The cats very seldom if ever leave their back yard, and not too many cats have their own real estate. I do have a few indoor cats as well. In addition to the possum a very much afraid one eyed cat that has been showing up for a hand out for the past week. I do what I can to rescue animals get the care they need and find them homes. I found two puppies last winter someone had thrown out on a busy street in zero ...
