Preisner - Farewell from "Ten Easy Pieces for Piano"

Farewell from "Ten Easy Pieces for Piano" Composer: Zbigniew Preisner (1955 - ) Performer: Leszek Mozdzer Special thanks to my sister for providing a beautiful picture of the flower, Queen Anne's Lace!! Zbigniew Preisner is one of Poland's leading film score composers, best known for his work with film director Krzysztof Kieślowski. Preisner studied history and philosophy in Kraków. Never having received formal music lessons, he taught himself about music by listening and transcribing parts from records. His compositional style represents a distinctively spare form of tonal neo-Romanticism. Paganini and Jean Sibelius are acknowledged influences. Preisner is best known for the music composed for the films of fellow Pole director Krzysztof Kieślowski. His Song for the Unification of Europe, based on the Greek text of 1 Corinthians 13, is attributed to a character in Kieślowski's Three Colors: Blue and plays a dominating role in the story. His music for Three Colors: Red includes a setting of Polish and French versions of a poem by Wisława Szymborska, Poland's Nobel Prize-winning poet. After working with Kieślowski on Three Colors: Blue, Preisner was hired by the producer Francis Ford Coppola to write the score for The Secret Garden, directed by Polish director Agnieszka Holland. Although Preisner is most closely associated with Kieślowski, he has collaborated with several other directors, winning a César in 1996 for his work on Jean Becker's Élisa. Zbigniew Preisner: Awakening of Spring (The Secret Garden)

Disclaimer: I do not own this! The Secret Garden is a 1993 film adaptation of the 1909 novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The film was directed by Agnieszka Holland. The recently-orphaned Mary Lennox travels from her home in India to her uncle Archibald Craven's hundred-room house, Misselthwaite Manor, in Yorkshire, England. Mary, materially spoiled but emotionally neglected by her late parents who had been killed in a cholera outbreak, is rather unpleasant and unhappy in her new surroundings. Martha, a Yorkshire girl working as a maid, and her brother Dickon Sowerby, a boy who can "talk" to animals, befriend and help her to heal and grow. She discovers her deceased aunt's secret garden, which has been locked for ten years and enlists Dickon to help her bring it to life. Hidden away in the gloomy house is Mary's cousin Colin, who has been treated all his life like a fragile, sickly invalid. This exaggeration has augmented what smaller problems he did have, turning him into a demanding, short-tempered, helpless boy. Mary, defying the orders of Mrs Medlock (who runs Misselthwaite), discovers Colin and is taken aback by his difficult nature, but reaches out to him anyway. Soon Colin, Mary, and Dickon all spend their time in the secret garden. They perform "magic"; barefoot, they make a large bonfire and play a flute, dance round it, and chant, while Colin asks the magic to send his father. Colin learns to walk and gets quite well, which his father Archibald ...

Preisner - Les Marionettes

LES MARIONETTES by Zbigniew Preisner. Music from the film "The Double Life of Veronique". I took these photos on a foggy day as I walked through our fields. I played this piece with tender hesitation, imitating the gentle, inconsistent movement of fog and my slow and meditative pace. And in part, I played it slowly because of a problem with my right hand, for which I had surgery. I can now play this at proper tempo and with greater expressiveness, and soon I will make a new video. I hope you enjoy this quiet walk through the fields and oak trees! Lorna Pollock, piano. Zbigniew Preisner - THE SECRET GARDEN (1993) - Soundtrack Suite

Aside from the Three Colours trilogy, Preisner, a relatively unknown composer, creates a score for this magical Hodgson Burnett adaptation that uplifts the listener. Traversing from the mystic India to the sweeping English countryside, Preisner's score for Agnieszka Holland's adaptation of the classic children's story The Secret Garden takes the listener on a journey, as any memorable score should, and gives each landscape and character a distinct theme. One can shut their eyes whilst listening to the score and picture the garden's progression from overhanging and unkempt land to a fertile, blossoming landscape wherein the protagonist, Mary, played with great naivety as well as intelligence by newcomer Kate Maberly, has the power and strength to grow. The Garden Is A Character Itself, Elevating Preisner's Score To Great Heights The garden is a metaphor both for Mary and Colin's progression from childhood innocents into mature adults as well as their individual barriers to overcome. Mary has the chance to be loved by her Uncle, Lord Archibald Craven (John Lynch) where she was abandoned by her neglecting parents. Presiner's score compliments the symbols and the allegories hidden in Holland's adaptation of the story. The main title invokes the echoing sounds of children, like soft crying, and the theme builds to match the sense of impending disaster as the earthquake ensues and parts Mary from her parents. The score begins rooted in Indian culture before shifting the tone ...

Conversation with Father Zbigniew Preisner

About the artworks: The black and white paintings are by Timur Tsaku. He was born in 1971 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. "Tsaku's paintings begin with abstracted backgrounds in acrylic. "When the surfaces of the panels are almost completed" Tsaku says, "these moody, abstracted landscapes reveal the figures that will encompass the majority of the image." The artist uses a "triple zero" paint brush and magnifying glass to achieve a hyper-realistic, almost photographic representation of the people and animals depicted in his unique imagery. Characterized by very modern black and white composition, Tsaku's paintings are also highlighted with touches of gold paint. According to the artist, all of the characters in his works are based on figures found in the Old Testament of the Bible. With a majority of the figures taking the form of animals; these animals are actually spiritual creatures that have manifested themselves in the shapes of dogs, cats and other "approachable" beasts." copy/paste from Tsakus homepage : www.tsaku.com The other ones are by Brad Kunkle.Born in Pennsylvania in 1978. He work with oil on panel or linen. Impressive in composition, color and technique, beautiful expressions!! He studied painting at Kutztown University mostly under George Sorrels, who was taught by a pupil of the 19th century Academic painter, William Adolphe Bougereau.
