'Israel behind Bahrain's suffering'

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is to discuss Bahrain's rights record in the upcoming session of its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group in Geneva. The session will take up Bahrain's human rights situation on its first day, the UNHRC reported on its website. The tiny Persian Gulf sheikdom has come under fire for its rights violations in the wake of the revolution that has shaken the US ally since early last year. Press TV has conducted an interview with Peter Eyre, Middle East consultant, to hear his opinion on this issue.

Shakespeare: EU banking system is corrupt

Fitch Ratings have downgraded Greece's sovereign debt from B- to CCC, the lowest possible grade for a country that is not in default. The agency said an exit from the euro currency union is "probable" if politicians fail to form a government after the next round of elections, which is scheduled for June 17. It warned that the country's exit from the eurozone would hurt the economies of other European nations that use the currency. Press TV has conducted an interview with Rodney Shakespeare, professor of Binary Economics, to hear his opinion on this issue.

'Death squads at root of Syria crisis'-News Analysis-05-09-2012

In Syria, the fragile cease-fire brokered by the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan was broken again: A roadside bomb struck a Syrian military truck, wounding six soldiers. But what was different was that the explosion happened just seconds after a convoy carrying the head of the UN observer mission passed by, which has put into speculation that perhaps the UN convoy was the target. If so, this comes just one day after US UN ambassador Susan Rice said the Kofi Annan ceasefire plan was ineffective on all fronts: Syria, its elections, its ceasefire: Subject of this edition of the Press TV News Analysis. Silencing Press TV-News Analysis-01-20-2012

In what's been called a clear example of censorship, British media regulator Ofcom has revoked Press TV's UK license and removed the news network from the sky platform. This edition of News Analysis looks at what repercussions this move will have on freedom of speech in the UK; a regulator which has stated they are an individual body not funded by the UK government, even though facts state otherwise. We will also look at how Press TV will respond to this decision: Nothing more and nothing less than its stated objective from day one: To report with precision and honesty world events, even it means being critical of the UK government, and to continue being the voice of the voiceless.

Max Keiser: 'Greece run by financial terrorists"

Global stock markets have plunged over Greece's shock announcement that it would hold a referendum on an EU bailout deal. The decision has raised fears that a rejection of the unpopular EU agreement will renew risks of a Greek default and might even force the country to leave the eurozone. Press TV talks with Max Keiser, a financial journalist and broadcaster in Paris, to get his view on the issue.

UK bans Press TV: 'Iran getting closer to total isolation'

Britain has revoked the press license of Iran-based English language broadcaster Press TV, accusing it of violating press regulations. But some say the decision was really motivated by British geopolitical interests. The Office of Communications (Ofcom), a government-approved watchdog overseeing broadcasting and telecommunications in the UK, says the channel does not control its content. Phil Rees, a UK-based media analyst and author talks to RT suggesting that the driving force behind the decision is geopolitics. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Breaking News - US set to use army to put down protests

An analyst informs that the US has its army on standby against the Occupy and student movement as the economic situation in America deteriorates day by day. Rodney Shakespeare: The authorities though are getting nervous and even vicious toward the protesters. The army is being readied to move in. A law will allow the US government to disappear anybody - there's fascism for you. They may censor the internet; and there are demands for war to hide the true situation. And the reason for all this is in fact the overall economic situation. If you start with Europe where the Euro could be weeks even days away from collapse, that could result with the sovereign debt of Europe being defaulted. That will mean billions even trillion of payments by the USA banks, which hold the derivatives or the insurance. But they don't have the money to pay. Recently the Bank of America moved 70 trillion - that's 70 trillion dollars worth of derivatives to a Bank of America commercial holding company, which is government insured. Now, 70 trillion is larger than the global economy. So if you put it all together the USA is getting very very nervous that the whole thing is about to blow up and of course at that point the protests and demonstrations in the USA will multiply by a factor of perhaps three or five and they are getting ready to go in with a fascist suppression. The protesters are actually representing not just deep unease, but the nasty reality of 20 percent unemployment overall with a 40 ...

The campaign to encourage British Muslims to check the label before they buy dates for Ramadan, has begun once again. Each year, hundreds of stores are found selling Israeli dates -- produced on settlements that are illegal according to the United Nations. OfCom's pressure on Press TV-News Analsis-01-12-2012

If you're not aware by now, OfCom has decided to remove the Iranian English-language news channel Press TV from the Sky platform under the pretext that Press TV made administrative errors in its application for a license in 2007. It has also fined Press TV Limited in London a hundred thousand pounds. At the same time, Ofcom has made moves to revoke the license of Press TV Limited in the UK for what it calls Press TV Ltd's lack of control over the channel's broadcast. However, media observers say these charges are merely a pretext to remove the satellite channel off the air, as indicated in the WikiLeaks revelations. We will examine Ofcom's case and actions against Press TV in this edition of the Press TV News Analysis.
