Sigur Ros - Heima Trailer

More information and pre-order is at: www.beggarsgroupusa.com XL Recordings is pleased to announce that Sigur Rós will break their two-year silence to release their first-ever film on November 20, 2007 and a companion album two weeks before on November 6, 2007. Filmed over two weeks during the Summer of 2007 when the band undertook a free tour of Iceland, 'Heima' stands as a colossal labour of love - not to say grand folly - typical of this most exacting of bands. 'Heima' (icelandic for "at home" or "homeland"), truly, shows Sigur Rós as never before. Whereas seeing the group live is normally a large-scale and sometimes overwhelming experience, making full use of lights and mesmeric visuals, 'heima' was always intended to reveal more of what was actually going on on stage. It does this via long-held close-ups and a rare intimate proximity, without ever once breaking the spell. 'Heima' was directed by dean deblois, a long-time fan of the band and director of the oscar-nominated animated feature 'lilo & stitch', using an icelandic crew. 'Hvarf-Heim', the companion album, is more cousin than sister release. It has two titles because it is in effect two separate, but complementary, entities, with -- get this -- two front covers and a limited edition run of two discs.
Sigur Rós - Hoppípolla

"Hoppípolla", Icelandic for "Jumping into puddles") is a song by Icelandic band Sigur Rós from their 2005 album Takk.... It was released as the album's second single on November 28, 2005. The lyrics are mainly in Icelandic, with some nonsensical phrases, a "language" the band calls Vonlenska ("Hopelandic"). As with many of the band's songs, it was given a nickname in the early stages of writing. Hoppípolla was "The Money Song", as the band was certain they had written a song which would have commercial success. It is the band's most successful single, charting at #24 on the UK Singles Chart in May 2006 due to the song's increased popularity as the theme for the BBC's Planet Earth. The single also features "Með blóðnasir", an instrumental coda to "Hoppípolla", which is also featured on Takk...; and a studio remake of "Hafssól", a song previously released on the band's 1997 debut album, Von. The title appears as "Hafsól" on the single.

Sigur Rós with Amiina - Sé Lest (from the film 'Heima')

One of my favourite sequences from 'Heima'; it just seems to encapsulate everything that is so wonderful about the film: the Icelandic landscape, and the relative informality of many of the 'homecoming' gigs that the band played around Iceland. The magical quality of the occasion is also captured so well on the expressions of the audience (the little girl's look of wonder for example); and of course the music itself, featuring a local marching band is sublime. One of the best 'rockumentaries' ever committed to film.

Sigur Rós "Nýja Lagið" (Live) HD 1080p

Sigur Rós "Nýja Lagið" (Live at The Icelandic Opera House in Reykjavík, Iceland 1999) HD 1080p Album: Svefn-G-Englar, 1999 Sigur Rós is an Icelandic post-rock band. The band is known for its ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto vocals, the use of bowed guitar and for incorporating elements of classical and minimalist into their music. In January 2010, the band announced that they will be on hiatus, however the band have anounced that they are currently working on a new album and a that there will be a world tour in 2012. The name "Sigur Rós" is Icelandic for "Victory Rose". The band was named after Jónsi's newborn sister, Sigurrós Elín. Jón Þór (Jónsi) Birgisson (guitar and vocals), Georg Hólm (bass) and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (drums) formed the group in Reykjavík in August 1994. Their name is Icelandic wordplay: while the individual words Sigur and Rós mean, respectively, Victory and Rose, "Victory Rose" wouldn't be grammatically correct; the name is actually borrowed from Jónsi's younger sister Sigurrós, who was born the same day as the band was formed, and then split into two words. They soon won a record deal with the local Sugarcubes-owned record label, Bad Taste. In 1997, they released Von, meaning "hope") and in 1998 a remix collection named Von brigði. This name is also Icelandic wordplay: Vonbrigði means "disappointment", but Von brigði means "variations on Von". The band was joined by Kjartan Sveinsson on keyboards in 1998. He is the only member of ...
