On 24 July 1993 at 15:17 hrs (local time), a pair of Mig-29 of the Russian Flight Research Institute took off in close formation to commence their flight display at the RAF Fairford International Air Tattoo. The cloud was scattered at 3000ft (914m), visibility was excellent & surface-wind was down-runway 8kts (4m/sec). The display was going smoothly until the final maneuvre, which was simultaneous loops commenced from long line astern , prior to break to the land. The leader, who pulled up first, carried out a normal loop. The aircraft entered the cloud at the top. Number 2 commenced his loop afterwards, executed a tighter loop and experienced difficulties with the cloud. At some stage during the maneuvre, both pilots lost visual contact with each other & called it. As a result of Number 2's tighter loop, the leader was lower and not far enough from Number 2 (as he expected he would be). The Leader decided to carry out his break to downwind , believing that this way it would take him out of the flight-path of Number 2. Shortly after commencing his break, the left wing of the Leader impacted the fuselage of Number 2. Both aicrafts became uncontrollable. Both Pilots ejected successfully and landed uninjured. One aircraft impacted to the North-East of the airfield, 700m (2300ft) away from the crowd line, while the other one crashed on the perimeter fence. Really enjoyed the Rafale display, its a very nimble aircraft with lots of power, great looking jet also. This display by Capt Brocard was the winner of the Paul Bowen trophy, for the best solo jet display at RIAT 2011.

Saturday 18th July 2009 the Vulcan took to the skies at Fairford once again. Great display and thanks to the team. Vulcan XH-558 still needs your help. This video was shot on a 3 chip SD camera (Canon XM-2) and upscaled to 720p, as this makes for better quality on YouTube. I apologise for the shakiness. I was too close to use a tripod, I was being buffeted by the wind and the takeoff shot was done with me precariously balanced on a coolbox! After paying a fortune for 4 tickets and camping at Kempsford campsite (almost on the airfield), we got up at 6am and still didn't get a place at the front of the crowdline. This was the first European public air display, for the F-22A Raptor, it was amazing. Major David 'Zeke' Skalicky did a great job at the Royal International Air Tattoo, piloting the raptor and demonstrating to the crowd its awesome power and manouverability. Really enjoyed the Hollywood blockbuster style commentary. The free world can sleep tight, knowing the Raptor is dominating the skys above.

Returning from displaying at Farnborough the F22 Raptor lands and taxis right over to where we were standing for a real close look at this remarkable machine. Shame we did not get a full display will have to wait untill next year but this made up for that as i dont think we would normal be able to get this close!!!!.Just a few hundred poeple there to see this today (14/07/2008) so enjoy!:)

Footage of the F15 F16 and Typhoon from the Air Tattoo, filmed from right underneath them! The typhoon from the damp Sunday at the end is the best with some awesome vapour and shockwaves... RIAT 2007. Excuse the shoddy editing and some iffy camera work. Its hard to film when you have to spin around while standing on rough ground...
