A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes on record slammed Japan's eastern coast on Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away ships, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control. Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicentre. Rescuers on Monday dug through rubble in Rikuzentakata, a port city of over 20-thousand people in Iwate Prefecture, which was virtually wiped out by Friday's earthquake and tsunami. RT crew has been filming in Japan's port of Kesennuma - a traditional fishing town, which was almost wiped out by tsunami. Japan is dealing with the aftermath of a massive tsunami. The official number killed is now 375. That's a figure which even the most optimistic estimates suggest will rise dramatically. Another strong earthquake off the coast of Japan has rocked the already devastated country. Although a Tsunami warning that was issued following the new quake has since been cancelled. The 9 magnitude earthquake and ensuing tsunami which struck the country 2 and a half weeks ago, ravaging whole regions, is now estimated to have killed well over 10 thousand. Workers are still battling to contain radiation leaks at a nuclear plant severely damaged by the disaster. Japan's nuclear agency says levels of radioactive iodine in the sea near the plant have risen to almost two thousand times the usual level. And as that crisis looms, many are still struggling with the loss of loved ones. This dramatic video shows a tsunami wave smashing into the Japanese town of Miyako, in Iwate Prefecture. The wave crashes over the seawall carrying away everything in its path, including boats that topple over the wall and are smashed into a bridge. Cars were simply washed away, crashing into each other and buildings. More than 1400 people were killed by the quake and resulting tsunamis and hundreds more were still missing, according to officials, but police in one of the worst-hit areas estimated the number of dead there alone could eventually top 10000. In Japan, radiation levels in the seawater near the Fukushima plant continue to rise. They're now more than 3.5 thousand times higher than normal. Radioactive material has also been detected in soil at the facility. Japan's government described the situation as serious and unpredictable.
