J Mascis w/ Lee Ranaldo perform Little Fury Things accoustic

J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr (Who is looking pretty huskey in that outfit) plays a familar Dinosaur tune live on an accoustic guitar. For vocal help, he gets Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth to do the verses with him, just like it is on the album! I dig this performance, but sorry guys you can't really hear Lee. But the whole thing is great, it's like a children's show when J is looking for Lee at the start. Very funny! Enjoy! From the You're Living All Over Me LP Music/Lyrics by J Mascis

Lee Ranaldo The Bridge

I've always admired Ranaldo's lyrics, singing and guitar style. This is a piece of remarkable "poetic prose" by Ranaldo. "bout a week ago. `bout a week ago I was driving one night with my father. In an old chevvy pick-up truck that we borrowed from a cousin of mine. And we were moving some furniture into New York. It was late in the evening. And the truck was really old and really worn out. The inside of the cab, really smelled a lot of gas. So the whole entire trip we were gagging for breath and getting very high of the fumes. And the steering was loose. It was typical old truck `53 chevvy or something like that. The whole bit. But anyway. We were driving in, and, we took the BQE and we were going to the Brooklyn bridge and we were going on and over the Brooklyn bridge. We got to that section where the pavement falls away and is replaced by those metal slats which make up the floor of the bridge itself. And your, and your car, wheels run and glisten over that and make this kind of a sound. You know what I mean? You've heard it I'm sure. And the wheels slip and slide a little bit and you always feel like maybe you're gonna get a little bit too close to that wall of the Bridge. And we're riding along listening to this sounds. And other cars were driving by making other sounds. That would have the, you know, that, and that doppler effect as they go by, right? And it was dark and it was night and the fumes were making me high and I was surrounded by a wall of guitars about a ...
Leah Singer/Lee Ranaldo: sight unseen - Nuit Blanche 2010

Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth had an installation in this year's Nuit Blanche.Video by David Sloma for Rockin' Films RockinFilms.com -- Note The use of the "rock and roll" hand sign in some of our videos is in NO way meant to imply ANY evil intent. WE STAND FOR LOVE AND TRUTH! We grew up on rock 'n roll, and that sign stood for good rockin' fun -- or so we thought! Not anything negative that would harm anyone. But, there are meanings attached to that sign that we were not aware of at the time we used it. So, to avoid any confusion, we no longer use that sign for our logo, but it may still be on some of our older videos that are hard to update.

Lee Ranaldo - Maelstrom for The Morning Line, 2008

Maelstrom is a multichannel soundscape that, - following on the heels of my 2005 DRIFT project in collaboration with Leah Singer, utilizes elements extracted from that work to create a wholly new piece. I have taken some sonic details - tonal clusters created with electronic guitar - from that much larger project and used them as the basis for a sprawling, seemingly static state of guitar bedevilment. While there are many subtle shifts going on within the sound field, the overall effect is meant to be rather sustained, monolithic sonic cloud - indeed, a maelstrom - real brain-eraser type stuff. I intend to erect a series of loud chambers within Matthew Ritchie's work, within one might think silent thoughts. (LR)
