Best Sitar/Tabla piece ever Ravi Shankar & Chatur Lal Raga Mishra Piloo In Thumri Style

A veritable gem..with virtuoso tabla of Chatur Lal recorded in 1965 when Shankar was in his prime....the majestic start ...the meandering melody thus reconditions the soul inculcating in it a certain sense of levitation.. imbued with divinity..a kind of mantra..a dialogue with God...elevates you to Nirvana ..leads you to Valhalla and firmly deposits you there ... sempiternally...tabla solo in the middle ( 5:51 to 8:44) by Chatur Lal is simply mesmerizing! And 8:44 to 10-45 is probably one of the best and perfect sitar/tabla rapport ( jugalbandi) of all time! Don't miss 5:22 to 6:35 sitar engages in a dialogue with tabla then fades gracefully to make way for tabla solo....if there ever was a magical music tour this is it...this is it...and this is it...Ravi Shankar and Chatur Lal here transport you to a world where music is redefined.....transforming even the banal into a source of wonder.... and wonderment...

Knowledge Talk by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar | Bhagvad Gita | Part 6

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar brings Bhagavad Gita to life in this knowledge talk series. Distilling the essence of each chapter from the original text, he inspires us to see where in life's journey we may be stuck ourselves. In this knowledgetalk, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar speaks how Sanjay, the youngest son of Dhritarashtra used his power of intuition to see what was happening out there in the fields while sitting in the palace. For more knowledge talks and question answers by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and to subscribe to his wisdom blog visit www.artofliving.org About Bhagvad Gita The Bhagavad Gita meaning Song of God is a 700-verse scripture. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shares that the whole essence of the Gita is to act without being attached to the action. It's all about yoga, not about war but your attitude. The knowledge in Bhagavad Gita was given to Arjun by Lord Krishna on the battlefield. When you are faced with a situation like war, how do you manage yourself? The worst situation in life is when you have to face a war and when you have to fight not with an enemy, but with some of your own people. When you have to fight with your own brothers, how do you handle the situation? It's easy to fight a war with an enemy, someone you don't like. But fighting with someone who is part of your own family? If you can manage your mind in the worst scenario, then you can manage yourself in any situation. Ravi Shankar - Concert in London Barbican 2011

For this last number Ravi said he didn't know just what he would play, but he would start in Khamaj and let a ragamala develop. At the end he would do a new thing. He gave it a name I didn't quite catch, something like "Bhava Chandra" and said it was a new way of creating rhythmic patterns. He didn't know if we would like it, but he found it fun. After the promised ragamala, which was melodically and rhythmically playful, it transpired this was much percussive play on the sitar with a cloth, the sort often used between arm and tumba, laid under the strings to disable the jawari and muffle the sound. This was followed by a concluding jhalla, Ravi still had the energy but Parimal Sadaphal carried most of the load.

RAVI SHANKAR 01 - Eine ganz besondere Musiklektion (l'extraordinaire leçon)

Guru Puja by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Guru Purnima 2011

15th July 2011, Montreal, Canada Guru Puja - Honoring the Tradition of Masters In this video, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar performs Guru Puja. The Guru Puja is a beautiful puja expressing our gratitude towards the tradition of Masters who have preserved this ancient wisdom and given it to mankind time and again, based on the need of the hour. Guru Purnima, as Guruji says, is the day of the disciple, a time to reflect and a time to be grateful for all the transformation in our lives that has come about with the presence of a Master in our lives. Guruji performing the Guru Puja on this day is the most special, sacred and precious occasion and we are fortunate to be a part of it. During Guru Puja (or Pooja), people express gratitude to all the Gurus (masters) of the past, present, and future. During Guru Purnima 2011, Sri Sri mentioned, "Throw light on your own life, the wisdom that shines through that is Guru. There is a Guru hiding in each one." Meaning of Puja Puja means that which is born out of fullness. Art of Living pujas are very different as Sri Sri encourages people to have a spiritual bent along with a scientific temper. In the pujas performed in the Art of Living, importance is given to the correct enunciation of chants, as well as making offerings with gratitude. Art of Living volunteers sit for pujas with gratitude and a big smile on their face. Pujas end with deep meditation followed bysatsang.
