After the war the tango-song became a Polish standard recollecting times "when Jews were among us". After great success of tango "Rebeka" composed by Zygmunt Białostocki, another Polish musician, Szymon Kataszek, also of Jewish origin, composed two years later (to the lyrics again by Andrzej Włast) a number titled -- "Rebeka is dancing tango !", a sort of a further story of our enamoured Jewish girl from the shtetl. It tells us about her great social career: Rebeka, poor shop assistant, mad about her unfulfilled love, from now on - extravagant, red-haired vamp is dancing every night tango at Adria night club, selecting partners according to their financial potency. The song, however, did not reach the popularity of the first, poignant image of Rebeka. Kazimierz Krukowski, "Lopek", one of the most popular cabaret actors of pre- and post-war period, often presenting Jewish songs and sketches called in a popular way -- "szmonces".
