NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione welcomed 711 new recruits into the Force at an attestation ceremony in Goulburn this morning. 'Class 311' of the Associate Diploma of Policing Practice is made up of 529 men and 182 women. "As the new recruits take their oath of office today, they bring vigour and enthusiasm to meet the challenges that lay ahead. "I welcome them today and wish them well as they embark upon the rewarding career that is policing NSW. "Our newest Probationary Constables bring the knowledge, skills and experience to meet the future policing needs of our state," said Commissioner Scipione. The new probationary constables come from a wide range of backgrounds. A number were born overseas in countries including India, Iraq, New Zealand, Croatia and Indonesia. Many are from non-English speaking backgrounds, with many fluent in a second language including Arabic, Cantonese, Dari, Kurdish and Serbian. "Eighty of the recruits speak over 34 different languages, showing that the diversity of our troops match the diversity of the community we serve." Two recruits joined the NSW Police Force through the IPROWD (Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery) program, and fourteen recruits identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. "I am heartened and proud to see fourteen Indigenous recruits march onto the parade ground today. A week out of college and the trainee paramedics work their first night shifts in the city. For country boy Dan it's a baptism of fire. Twenty-seven new recruits lined up in front of the Michigan State Police Training Academy on Sunday, July 24, and began their journey to become motor carrier (MC) officers as a part of the 17th Motor Carrier Recruit School. Motor carrier recruits must go through weeks of grueling training to graduate. In fact, throughout the recruit school, each recruit will endure several benchmarks and challenges to earn his or her badge on graduation day, Nov. 23, 2011. At Paramedic College a class of new recruits are nearing their final assessments but before they can begin their on-road training there's one more hurdle to jump. The tough 'major trauma' assessment. They'll be treating a simulated patient. If Reynir and Blake fail this test, they could be out of a job. Jenna's been out of college for eight weeks with mentor Cleone. Today she's called to her first pedestrian collision. A car has struck a teenage-boy and, with pedestrian deaths accounting for about 13% of all road fatalities, Jenna's patient is lucky to be alive - although it's the injuries Jenna can't see that have her worried. Compassion is perhaps the biggest pre-requisite to becoming a Paramedic and after two months as a trainee, Rebecca's had plenty of time to reflect on this very human quality. When her father was dying of cancer, it was the compassion shown to him by a nurse that made Rebecca change careers and become a Paramedic. Now the mother of three is called to a job close to her heart when a 67 year-old cancer patient is in great pain. I do not own this video. The Recruits is an observational documentary series that follows a group of police recruits as they embark on the long and gruelling journey towards becoming fully-fledged police officers. With unprecedented access to the New South Wales Police Academy and its recruits out on the beat, the series will give audiences a rare glimpse at what's required of the people we entrust to keep the peace and uphold the law. The series will follow two groups of trainee officers. The first group are student Recruits beginning 8 months of gruelling training at the NSW Goulburn Police College. From fresh-faced 18-year-old school leavers to married men and women looking for a career change, this group of recruits will be put through the ringer to test if they have what it takes to be cops. We'll see them leave family and friends for 8 months and we'll come to understand the personal and financial sacrifice each of them make with the goal of becoming a police officer. We'll be with them as they tackle their first fitness assessment, learn how to handle and fire their weapon and perform a textbook arrest. But not all of them will make it. It may be that the financial pressures are too great, or that the physical training is simply too much for them to cope with. Whatever the reason, some recruits will leave the academy prematurely with their dreams of becoming a police officer in tatters. For those who do make the grade, we'll see them graduate from the academy as the second group in the <b>...</b>

Trainee Paramedics must pass eight weeks of intensive theory before they're allowed to start a 3-year mentorship on the road. For Blake, passing his final assessment is the only thing that stands between him and his dream job... But a crucial error threatens to derail the promise of a new career.
