Story of an Idea - the film
This film, combining colourful animation with recent images, brings to life the history of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement from Henry Dunant and the Battle of Solferino through to today. The film explains the meaning of the Geneva Conventions, the universal humanitarian principles underlying the Movement's efforts and the general activities carried out by the different components, the ICRC, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the National Societies, as they work together to help those in need. www.icrc.org

I bought this radio with my own money, I was not asked by the company, nor was I paid to conduct this review. Considering what you get, I think it's well worth it. Not to mention, it's very well made. I actually found out about it here on youtube, but didn't buy one until I got to try it out in person at a local hardware store. Overall I liked it so much that I decided to do a comprehensive review. This is the kind of empowering, multifunction device utilizing 'renewable' energy that I'd like to see more of in the world. The design could probably use a little refinement but overall I give this version a solid B plus.

Israel Attacks 2 Red Cross Ambulances during War on Lebanon
During Israel's war on Lebanon, Israel was accused by Human Rights Watch and numerous local and international media outlets of attacking two Lebanese Red Cross ambulances in Qana on July 23, 2006. Following these accusations, some websites claimed that the attack on the ambulances "never happened" and was a Hezbollah-orchestrated "hoax," a charge picked up by conservative commentators such as Oliver North. These claims attracted renewed attention when the Australian foreign minister stated that "it is beyond serious dispute that this episode has all the makings of a hoax." From aerial shots of the attack, it appeared at the time that Israeli airforce pilots used the Red Cross sign as a target. International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Field School
Field School training mission (2 weeks) for 55 Red Cross Red Crescent Humanitarian Delegates including Field Assessment and Coordination Teams (FACT), Regional Disaster Response Teams (RDRT), and Emergency Response Units (ERUs). The mission was in support of Kenya Red Cross flood relief operations in Nov 2009, Tana River Delta, Garsen area. Teams conducted rapid assessments, provided water, hygiene promotion, distribution of relief and training of over 80 volunteers. I arrived in Joplin this afternoon and was able to visit the shelter at MSSU, get a tour (it's bigger than you imagine) and speak with one of the residents for about a half hour. He explained what he went through last Sunday evening and I was forever changed after meeting him and hearing his story. He's a brave man who's been through it - he lived a few blocks from the hospital you've been seeing on the news. Even though he had his young son to take care of, he went out to help neighbors. He's a hero in my eyes and I have the feeling I'll meet many more with similar stories at the shelter. www.redcross.org
