Kitchen Remodel 2008

This is a slide show of our kitchen remodel. My husband and I started this project in March of 2008 and just finished it at the end of May. We did all the work ourselves and saved a lot of money, I did the electrical, plumbing, flooring and tiling and my husband designed and made the cabinets, installed the solid surface countertops and sink put in the crown molding, etc.... and we did the rest together. I also put new flooring in the rest of the house except the bedrooms and we painted and put crown molding througout. We also put in a gas fireplace, a pocket door, new trim on all the doors and a new french door. I installed recessed lighting in our family room as well. Next we will tackle the bathroom....stay tuned.

Kitchen Remodeling Ideas on a Budget

Use these tips from Lowe's Creative Ideas to remodel your kitchen on a budget by making changes in stages. Update your outdated kitchen cabinets by applying a simple coat of paint and changing out the cabinet and drawer pulls. Installing glass fronts on end cabinets will help to open up the space. Update old kitchen countertops instead of replacing them by using Modern Masters Countertop Transformation. Installing sleek new appliances is another easy way to make your kitchen look more modern and up-to-date. Open up your kitchen by removing soffits and upper cabinets. This will allow the kitchen to flow into the dining room. Tie the dining room and kitchen together by tiling the backsplash and one wall in the dining room with high-style stone subway tile. Adding shelves in the dining room that match the kitchen countertops will also help to coordinate the spaces. These shelves can be used to store things or used as extra storage space. Incorporating DIY projects like the chairs and the floor cloth in this video provides an affordable way to incorporate high impact style into your kitchen. Attic Remodeling Tips - Structural Problems

hometips.gregvan.com homerepair.gregvan.com Every once in a while I come across to an attic that has been remodeled but hasn't been remodeled correctly. The homeowner looks up in the attic and realizes that there is enough room for a new bedroom and possibly a bathroom. They don't realize the structural problems that they're about to encounter or the problems that could be passed on to the next homeowner. Most ceilinged joist aren't designed structurally to carry the load of a floor and that's actually why they're called ceiling joist instead of for joist. Even if you install larger floor joist, the building foundation might not be strong enough to carry the additional weight that's going to be provided by the new room. It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact a structural engineer, instead of a contractor, if you're seriously thinking about creating a new room or remodeling your attic. Contractors that are hungry for work can usually fit your budgets into their contracts and this might not benefit you or your family. If a contractor tells you that your new room can be built on top of your ceiling joist, I strongly suggest that you go back to my first suggestion and hire a structural engineer.

Kitchen Remodeling Part 2 - Planning Your Kitchen

Turn your kitchen remodeling ideas into an actual design by planning your kitchen. You likely have some ideas already about the color and style you want for your kitchen. If you're still not sure about some things, don't worry. Visit a Lowe's kitchen specialist to find answers and suggestions for your kitchen remodeling project. The layout is important. All kitchens have cabinets, countertops, fixtures, and appliances, but the arrangement is key to a functional, beautiful space. The kitchen work triangle is the space between the sink, refrigerator and stove. In the work triangle, there should be enough room to work comfortably, but not so much that there is unnecessary space and extra walking. A one-wall layout works well for small spaces. An L shape works well to connect the kitchen to other spaces. A galley minimizes walking. A U-shape routes traffic away from the work area. A G-shape is a great layout for a solo-cook. Multiple work zones, varied countertop heights, and cabinets with lazy-susans can make your kitchen more accessible for multiple generations. Detailed and precise measurement is crucial to a kitchen remodel. Inaccurate measurements could mean things don't fit, which could mean extra costs and time delays. Lowe's kitchen specialists can take your measurements and ideas to create a computer generated perspective printout of your kitchen. You kitchen cabinets from Lowe's will be created especially for your kitchen. They will be delivered to your home, so ...

"The Hidden Door" Design and Construction Remodel in Coto De Caza, CA

www.WoodworkSolutions.net Scope of Work: Floor to ceiling recessed panel wainscot, coffered ceiling, 2 piece crown moulding, custom entertainment wall, fireplace mantel, recessed panel columns, recessed panel hidden door, custom paint and audio/video system. This project was a collaboration of old world traditional design. The Woodwork Solutions Team did a complete remodel of Vicky and John Higgins grand family room. We started with floor to ceiling recessed panel wainscot, and a 12" dropped coffered ceiling with 2 piece crown moulding. This also included 6" can lights within each square. To display their art work and family pictures, we built them a 17"X8" custom entertainment wall with lots of shelving, this entertainment wall consists of matching cabinets on each side of the custom wood fireplace mantel. As the centerpiece of the room, this mantel was designed with recess panel columns and triple stacked mouldings. To the right side of the cabinet is a "hidden door," which resembles the recess panel wainscot that is throughout the room. Behind this hidden door houses the complete house audio system and video system-installed by Troy Vallin and his team at Custom Installations. The Higgins wished to also modify the step at the room entrance, so we accomplished that by removing the stair rail and built a longer step for a more grand appeal. Dave Monaco and his team installed the granite foe the step, bar top, and fireplace surround. Foe the finishing touch, we finished ...

How to Remodel Your Basement

Remodeling Your Basement - Andy Bell of Handyman Matters takes us through the process of creating a floating wall and exposing outlets in drywall. When remodeling the first thing to do is check with county regulations that might have changes since you've lived in your house. Attaching a board directly to the concrete is a new regulation at this house and therefore needing a floating wall. There needs to be a 3" gap in between wood on concrete and next board in case the concrete moves then it won't put pressure on the walls. To cut drywall and expose the power outlets is easy with a tool called a drywall saw. It is a hand saw that glides through the drywall very easily. When measuring the drywall to install just go slow and take your time to ensure little mistakes aren't being made.
