At one point the future of Mission: Impossible was uncertain, but it has been confirmed that the franchise will go on with Mission: Impossible 4. Word is Tom Cruise agreed to a pay cut, which was a big help in getting the next film underway. During an appearance on the late-night talk show, Lopez Tonight, Ving Rhames revealed he'll be back on Ethan Hunt's team as Luther, the tech expert backing the MI force. Interestingly enough, Luther was never supposed to live past the first six minutes of the original. As the story goes, he was supposed to be killed off, alongside Emilio Estevez and the rest of Ethan Hunt's team. However, as Rhames tells it, he talked director Brian DePalma into extending his role by complaining that "the black guy always dies first." Several sources say that story may not be entirely true.
