Fred Astaire - Puttin' On The Ritz, 1930

Fred Astaire - Puttin' On The Ritz (I.Berlin), Columbia 1930 NOTE: Although Irving Berlin's 1930 song was originally written for vaudevillian Harry Richman, it has become indelibly associated with Astaire, who also recorded it for Columbia in 1930. Sixteen years later he would record the song once more, performing it in the film Blue Skies. This song is an excellent example of the equivocal nature of popular culture during the Depression. While the lyrics speak of the "well-to-do" and seem to celebrate decadence, the lines "watch them spend their last two bits/puttin' on that Ritz" suggest the despair and nihilism of the era.

Guns N' Roses - My Michelle (Ritz 88)

Rose and his LA Guns bandmate Tracii Guns formed Guns N' Roses in March 1985. The band was a merger of LA Guns and Hollywood Rose, and featured musicians who had played for one or both groups, including Ole Beich and Duff McKagan. The band debuted at the Troubadour in Hollywood and proceeded to play the LA circuit, eventually building a fan following and attracting the attention of several record companies.[18][19] The lineup eventually solidified with Rose on vocals, Slash on lead guitar, Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar, Duff McKagan on bass and Steven Adler on drums. Guns N' Roses was signed to Geffen Records in 1986 and released a four-song EP, Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide, on their own label, UZI Suicide, in December of that year. The band's major label debut album, entitled Appetite for Destruction, was released in the United States on July 21, 1987. The record had a slow start, selling only 500000 copies in the first year of its release.[20] However, fueled by relentless touring and the mainstream success of the single "Sweet Child o' Mine", Appetite for Destruction rose to the #1 position on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States in the fall of 1988. To date, Appetite for Destruction ranks as the fourth best-selling debut album in the United States, has been certified 15x platinum by the RIAA, and has sold over 27 million copies.[21][22] With the success of Appetite for Destruction and its follow-up EP, GN'R Lies, Rose found himself lauded as one of rock's most ...

I have included pictures of her with some of her friends, including Lana Turner and Frank Sinatra, one of Lorna and Joe, and also a couple of clips, 'Get Happy' (from Summer Stock, 1950) and 'I Don't Care' (from In The Good Old Summertime, 1949) I love this song!

Puttin on the Ritz Lyrics

This video's song is performed by Shiny Toy Guns. Original song was created by Irving Berlin in 1929 and introduced by Harry Richman. Following versions included but not limited to Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Clark Gable, Fred Astaire, Gene Wilder & Peter Boyle, Taco, Shiny Toy Guns, and Leningrad Cowboys. This IS Shiny Toy Gun's version, and even though it might SOUND like Taco, it's not. Please, before questiong this, try comparing this version of the song with Taco's. Yes, the singers do sound alike, but that's the point. They're trying to sound like the people who originally sang this song back in the 20's, but there is plenty of differences to show that they are not the same. There was a small part of this song sung in an episode of Family Guy (not necessarily this video's version) "Putting on the Ritz" is a slang term for dressing very fashionably or fancy. It was inspired by the famous Ritz Hotel, located since 1906 in Piccadilly, London. The background of this video was drawn by and belongs to: cloudbabykc.deviantart.com There's really no reason behind the Warden from Superjail being in the background other than this song reminded me of something he'd listen to and/or sing. It's never been in the show Superjail either. I don't think why he's there even matters anyway, because it's more about the lyrics of the song and not what's behind them.

URBAN FARMING NYC

This video was originally shot in August 2009. A student from The POINT's ACTION program brought copies with him when he visited Michelle Obama's organic garden at the White House later that month. A version of this video then debuted at the South Bronx Food & Film Expo on December 5th, 2009 at The POINT and was also screened during the opening of the first ever Bronx Food Summit hosted by Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. on May 1st, 2010. A month later it was a part of the Sustainable Planet Film Series in Manhattan and has been shown at numerous events and classrooms across NYC and nationally. It has since given birth to a new, wholly inclusive, Bronx Borough-wide educational/vocational initiative: Green Bronx Machine. Green Bronx Machine and Bronx Educator/Advocate Stephen Joseph Ritz will be featured in a WABC TV Prime Time Special: "Above and Beyond," airing June 18, 2011 @ 7 PM on ABC Channel 7.
