Pokey Lafarge- Bag of Bones

Pokey Lafarge and the South City 3- Bag of bones off their Riverboat Soul album. April showers have melted my soul but the rain must come to an end for there are better days ahead this I know I see the sun rising around the bend, I see the sun rising around the bend When the kudzu vines start to grow down in dixie and the sunflowered gardens explode my bags are packed and I'm a fixin to spend my life on the road, to spend my life on the road Chorus: my heart is in this little bag of bones your face is the one I see when I am alone and I thank you for the love that you've shown yes, it's the one thing that will carry me on solo though I love you and I always will I'll take this chance on goodbye well, i'm sorry i didn't stick around to say it but I could not stand to see you cry chorus

If youve followed me on any of the social media networks I participate in youve no doubt been aware that I am a big advocate of Pokey LaFarge. Im not getting compensated for it, though it might seem like it. I just see him as this musician that is exceptionally talented and rare, who has a unique sound thats willing to work hard to get somewhere in this world. Hes on almost a non-stop tour schedule now with his band, The South City Three. I wont go into detail describing his sound you can hear it for yourself in the video, but I have gotten to know Pokey personally and I can tell you that his slight frame is packed with southern charm, the relentless drive of a wallstreet tycoon, the mischevious spirit of every class clown youve ever known, and, what seems like, one very old soul.

Pokey LaFarge (live) - "Hard Times Come and Go" - Newport Folk Festival 2011

To watch Pokey LaFarge and his band The South City Three, you need to take a time machine back to Appalachia in the 1940s. In our case, the Newport Folk Festival was sufficient. They put on an amazing live show - playing the washboard, tin cans, bicycle bells, a kazoo, and of course prolific guitar and upright bass. Video shot with a Canon G10.

Louisiana's LeRoux -- Take a Ride On a Riverboat (with lyrics)

(CHORUS) Take a ride on a riverboat Gonna leave and that's all she wrote Paddle wheel down to New Orleans Gonna find me a brand new queen In the spring when the leaves turn green And a fever grip's your soul Magnolia hits the air Gonna make you lose control You get weak down in your knees And your heart just slips away Delta nights are deadly Delta women too I'm gonna tell you by my witness Oh, it's true (Chorus x1) When the eyes of a cajun woman Hit you like a storm A hurricane ain't never blown That could do a boy more harm It's easy come and easy go And like a fool you'll learn Delta nights are deadly Delta women too I'm gonna tell you by my witness Yeah yeah it's true (Chorus x2) Delta nights are deadly Delta women too I'm gonna tell you by my witness Yeah yeah it's true (Chorus x2)

Hartford performed with a variety of ensembles throughout his career, and is perhaps best known for his solo performances where he would interchange the guitar, banjo, and fiddle from song to song. He also invented his own shuffle tap dance move, and clogged on an amplified piece of plywood while he played and sang. "Where does an old time river man go, after he's passed away? Does his soul still keep a watch on the deep, to the rest of the river day? Does he then come back as a channel cat, Or the wasps that light on the wheel? Or the birds that fly through a summer sky, Or the fish swimmin' under the keel? "Where does an old time pilot go, after he's stood his last watch? Does he fall by the ear of the man who steers, Sayin' "Hold her on that notch"? There's a gentle sneeze in the river breeze, Sayin "Son, I'm goin' to bed." Then they light their pipes, and go off in the night, Or was that fireflies instead? Where does an old time engineer go, after hes cooled her down? Hes gone up the hill to never come back, from a quiet ...
