The Roloffs, of Little People Big World, is coming to a close this season. They sort of started this TLC genre. Over approx. 5 years they will manage to get in about 230 episodes. I think they said at one point that they would film 11 months of the year - phew. The Gosselins eeked out 116 weekly episodes (of J&K) in a 2 and a half year span. They aired nearly year-round during that time. Probably an equally gruelling schedule, especially considering the ages of the kids. The Roloffs have largely managed to stay out of the limelight and tabloid rounds, and their marriage seems to be doing well. They have had their scandals with Jacob getting his skull fractured during pumpkin season, and Matt having a DUI on the show, and rumors of Jeremy making biggoted remarks. What does Matt think about the Gosselins, and about their own show ending? He's right, filming a reality show is not for the faint at heart. My personal guess is that one major difference between the families is that the Roloffs seem to be doing it to enjoy the money, get their message of tolerance out, and just enjoy the minor celebrity status. The Gosselins may have started out wanting to provide for their kids and be home with them, but I think it morphed into a celebrity-seeking obsession. But that's just my take on the difference. I know at one point a couple of years ago there was talk about a cross-over episode where the Gosselins fly cross country and visit the Roloff farm. That would have been neat to see ...
