The Churchs most spectacular papal tomb restored

In the history of the papacy, this bronze tomb is one of a kind, it was made in 1484 for Pope Sixtus IV. The most important Italian sculptors of the time, Antonio del Pollaiolo, took nine years to finish it. Yet it was never used for as a tomb. Sante Guido Restorer Pope Sixtus IV was a Franciscan and he wanted to be buried in a simple tomb in the earth. But it was his nephew Cardinal Giuliano ella Rovere, or Pope Julius II who had this lovely but expensive tomb made. Around the popes figure, the artist carved the seven cardinal virtues. He also carved the ten allegories of Art and Sciences, including astronomy, philosophy and dialectics at the base of the monument. Thanks to the restoration, which lasted two years, restorers discovered the artists challenges, who was not comfortable doing large-scale work. The first two he created, Rhetoric and Grammar, are very different from the last two, Philosophy and Theology. Sante Guido Restorer "The artist sculpted all the elements that humanists had placed at the centre of culture during those times, cause the Pope was very cultured and sensitive." Next to the sculptures, the artist added two panels. The one that sits at the popes feet tells the life of the pontiff. The other, under the head of Sixtus IV, has his signature. In addition, the sculptor also carved oak branches, which identified the family of the Pope. The monument, which is also known as the bronze Sistine Chapel can be seen at St. Peters Basilicas Museum. Ever wonder what the worlds largest, most comprehensive illustrated Bible is? The answer: The Brick Testament, one mans labour of love to bring the word to life through LEGO building blocks. Over the last eight years, Brenden Powell Smith has relied solely on LEGOs to bring 400 stories and 4450 illustrations of the Bible to life. The Brick Testament has also morphed into its own book set, as well, complete with printed works on The Ten Commandments, Book of Genesis and the Story of Christmas. Whatever the medium, The Brick Testament is proof that with a little creativity--and a whole lot of LEGOs--any story can come to life. JR - LB

Miracle of Cardinal Newmans beatification approved

Cardinal John Henry Newman is set to be beatified very soon now that the pope has officially recognized a miracle attributed to his intercession. The approved miracle was the inexplicable cure of a back ailment suffered by deacon Jack Sullivan. Peter Jennings Spokesperson, Cause for beatification of Cardinal Newman "He prayed and prayed everyday to the intercession of Newman, not for himself but so he might continue his deaconate classes and be ordained a deacon which he wanted to do." Beatification is the step that precedes canonization. It means the candidate for sainthood can be venerated in his diocese. Cardinal John Henry Newman was an Anglican presbyter that converted to Catholicism in 1845. He was one of the most important figures of the Oxford movement that advocated for the Church of Englands return to its Catholic roots. One of his biggest admirers is Benedict XVI, who during his years in the seminary studied Newmans life and writings. The only thing thats left is the date for beatification. The ceremony could be celebrated next year in Rome or London, the cardinals place of birth. BR/RS

John Paul II, an actor with a vocation for the priesthood

When he was young he overcame the death of his entire family, he endured the hard life of a labor worker and he studied in secrecy with the help of his professors. Thats how John Paul IIs vocation was shaped. His story began in the small polish town of Wadowice on May 18, 1920. He was baptized one month later. He said it was here that his vocation as a Christian and for the priesthood was born. After finishing high school, he enrolled at the Jagiellonian University of Krakow to study Polish philology and also enrolled in an acting school. But the war and the Nazi occupation would change his plans. John Paul II "On one hand, you can say that my youth was marked by the Divine Providence because many of my friends lost their lives in very different circumstances, in the war or in concentration camps. This is called Shoa which in Hebrew means extermination of people. All of this belongs to the history of our century and Ive lived this story during my youth. And through this suffering, I learned to see the real world in a profound way." At the age of 19, he started working at a stone quarry and later at a chemical factory in Solvay to earn a living and avoid deportation to Germany. Three years later, he decided to join an underground seminary organized by the bishop of Krakow, Cardinal Sapieha. John Paul II "That experience as a worker and a "clandestine" seminarian has stayed with me all my life. I used to take books with me to the factory during my eight-hour shift, during ...

Preparations underway in chapel for John Paul II's beatification

According to Vatican sources, this is the chapel where the body of John Paul II will rest once he has been beatified. It's located within Saint Peter's Basilica, next to the sculpture of the Pietà, in the chapel of Saint Sebastian, which has until now held the remains of the pope from 1689, Innocent XI. With great care and absolute discretion, Vatican workers are gradually removing the tiles and decorations of this chapel, in order to prepare a new area that will house the tomb of the future blessed John Paul II. The transfer of the body is expected before late October, after the possible beatification.

THANK YOU 5T4RSCREAM233 www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com We often hear the claim that our nation is a democracy. That wasn't the vision of the founders. They saw democracy as another form of tyranny. If we've become a democracy, I guarantee you that the founders would be deeply disappointed by our betrayal of their vision. The founders intended, and laid out the ground rules, for our nation to be a republic. The word "democracy" appears nowhere in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution -- two most fundamental documents of our nation. Instead of a democracy, the Constitution's Article IV, Section 4, guarantees "to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government." Moreover, let's ask ourselves: Does our pledge of allegiance to the flag say to "the democracy for which it stands," or does it say to "the republic for which it stands"? Or do we sing "The Battle Hymn of the Democracy" or "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"? So what's the difference between republican and democratic forms of government? John Adams captured the essence of the difference when he said, "You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments; rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe." Nothing in our Constitution suggests that government is a grantor of rights. Instead, government is a protector of rights. In recognition that it's Congress that poses the greatest threat to our liberties, the ...
