Reagan's Nashua Moment

Feb 23, 1980. In the New Hampshire primary, a single symbolic act dramatized the debut of Reagan's new image as a candidate and the demise of Bush's presidential hopes. It occurred during what was scheduled to be a two-person debate between Bush and Reagan in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Feburary 23, the Saturday before balloting. As it turned out, Bush crumpled under pressure orchestrated by Reagan's camp. Initially, both Reagan and Bush had seen advantages in a two-person debate sponsored by a local newspaper. When the FEC ruled that newspaper sponsorship of the debate amounted to an illegal campaign contribution and when Bush refused to pay half of the debate's cost, Reagan agreed to underwrite it himself. Reagan then moved to include the other five contenders - a move that identified him both as a candidate and a unifier. When the other candidates showed up on stage, Bush froze. As Reagan made his case for inclusion of the other candidates, the moderator ordered Reagan's mike turned off. Reagan responded, "I'm paying for this microphone, Mr. Green." The fact that the moderator's name was Breen seemed to matter little. The crowd cheered. When neither newspaper hosting the debate nor Bush would accede to the inclusion of the others, the other candidates left the stage. Reagan's prospects had been boosted, Bush's buried. Reagan carried New Hampshire 50% to Bush's 23%. (Excerpted from "Packaging The Presidency: A History and Criticism of Presidential Campaign" by Kathleen ...

Reagan's Final Address

The last six minutes from Reagan's last speech as President from the Oval Office at the White House on January 11, 1989. The entire video is here: millercenter.org Reagan follows the tradition of presidential farewell addresses and issues a warning that patriotism and a sense of history were no longer being taught and that the lessons of the past are being lost on today's generations. He also describes what he means by seeing America as the "shining city on a hill" and concludes his remarks by saying that "We weren't just marking time. We made a difference. We made the city stronger, we made the city freer, and we left her in good hands. All in all, not bad, not bad at all." Absolutely right! Not bad at all!

The Attempted Assassination of Ronald Reagan

The Reagan assassination attempt occurred on March 30, 1981, just 69 days into the presidency of Ronald Reagan. While leaving a speaking engagement at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC, President Reagan and three others were shot and wounded by John Hinckley. Reagan suffered a punctured lung, but prompt medical attention allowed him to recover quickly despite his age. No formal invocation of presidential succession took place, although a controversial statement by Secretary of State Alexander Haig that he was "in control here" marked a short period during which Vice President George HW Bush was physically absent, flying back to Washington, DC aboard Air Force Two. Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and has remained confined to a psychiatric facility.

Ronald Reagan on Ron Paul ( *Updated - Alternate* )

*UPDATED* Fixes Include - Spelling, Enhanced Sound and Visuals, Reagan & Paul picture refurbishment I received quite a bit of good feedback on this video with most saying things along the lines of "great work, I just wish it was a little more polished...and then there is that spelling error." Admittedly those comments eventually ate away at me so with a little extra time on my hands today I did a little housekeeping and managed to get around to fixing this clip. Of course I'm sure as soon as I upload it I will notice something else I missed, but I'll have to find a way to live with it :-) Many candidates reminiscence about the strong leadership of Ronald Reagan, but what did Reagan think about one of the candidates... President Ronald Reagan Christmas address (12/23/81)

In a world of political correctness and Christmas culture wars, Reagan's national address is almost unbelievable! It is a breath of fresh Christmas air! What happened to the politicians like him who are not afraid to hold fast to the Christian faith despite what others think or say about their Christmas beleifs? God help us by sending more like him back into our country! The challenge: will you speak like this the next time you are given opportunity to speak about your faith? Ronald Reagan's church put this together to commemorate the birthday of Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately the war against the evil of liberalism is still alive and well, and we fight it even at Bel Air Presbyterian. The liberal Presbyterians are doing all they can to pervert the church from the inside out. Fortunately the conservative Christians are strong at Bel Air.
