Royal Air Force aircraft attack a Qadhafi regime ammunition storage facility

Royal Air Force aircraft attacked a Qadhafi regime ammunition storage facility in a series of strikes on Tuesday (31/05/2011). Typhoon and Tornado aircraft struck ten ammunition storage bunkers and a vehicle at a site near Waddan, using Enhanced Paveway II and Paveway IV bombs. The bombs use both satellite and laser guidance to ensure they are as accurate as possible. Numerous secondary explosions, seen in video from the aircraft's Litening III targeting pods, showed that a significant quantity of munitions was stored at the site. As for all NATO strikes, a full set of checks was carried out before each attack to minimise collateral damage. The destruction of the ammunition has further reduced the Qadhafi regime's ability to attack civilians in Libya, as the NATO mission keeps up pressure on the dictator and his close supporters. This operation was carried out in support of NATO's mission, Operation Unified Protector.

Royal Air Force Tornados attack a Qadhafi regime military camp in Tripoli

Royal Air Force Tornado GR4 aircraft have attacked a Qadhafi regime military camp in Tripoli. The aircraft struck just after midnight, using Paveway IV bombs to destroy the target. As in all NATO attacks, a full set of checks was carried out to minimise collateral damage: Major General John Lorimer said: "The Ministry of Defence can confirm that UK Armed Forces, as part of NATO's Operation Unified Protector to enforce UNSCR 1973 and protect Libyan civilians under threat of attack, took action last night against targets in Tripoli closely involved in the repression of the Libyan people by Colonel Qadhafi's regime. In conjunction with strikes by other NATO allies, Royal Navy Tomahawk missiles, fired from HMS Triumph, and Royal Air Force Tornado aircraft attacked important intelligence agency buildings and a training base used by Colonel Qadhafi's Executive Protection Force. "The facilities that were struck lay at the heart of the apparatus used by the regime to brutalise the civilian population. One of the intelligence facilities which was hit is known to play a significant role in the collection of information by Colonel Qadhafi's secret police, whilst the other was a headquarters for the External Security Organisation, commanded by Abdullah Sanussi. "The so-called Executive Protection Force acts as the bodyguard for the inner circle of the Colonel's regime, and is also entrusted with other sensitive tasks. ROYAL AIR FORCE C-17 GLOBEMASTER III (5)

Callsign 'Ascot 6713' is a RAF Brize Norton based 99 SQN Boeing C-17 flying IFR between Tyndall Air Force Base to Atlanta with a USAF Air Mobility Command C-17 Callsign 'Reach 441' flown by LAUSA AIR Senior Captain Romario Raffington. The C-17 Globemaster III is the latest addition to the RAF's inventory of transport aircraft. It is capable of rapid, strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases anywhere in the world, or directly to more temporary forward operating bases owing to its short field capability. The design of the aircraft allows it to carry out high-angle, steep approaches at relatively slow speeds, thus allowing it to operate into small, austere airfields onto runways as short as 3500 feet long and only 90 feet wide. The aircraft can operate into and out of problematic sites such as those surrounded by inhospitable terrain or made difficult by adverse weather conditions. The fully-integrated, electronic flight-deck and the advanced cargo-handling systems allow a basic crew of only two pilots and one air loadmaster to operate the aircraft. On the ground, the aircraft can be turned in a very small radius and its four Pratt & Whitney engines are fully reversible, giving it the ability to manoeuvre into and out of restricted parking or freight-offload areas at undeveloped strips. This enables the C-17 to deliver cargo to small airfields with limited parking space in a shorter time, so increasing throughput where time on the ground is ...

Royal Air Force Museum - RAF Cosford

Royal Air Force Museum - RAF Cosford The museum at Cosford opened on 1 May 1979, initially exhibiting airframes which had been used for technical training at RAF Cosford. In the following years additional aircraft were added to the collection and in 1980 it was agreed that the British Airways Collection be displayed at Cosford. On 21 June 1998 four additional galleries were opened, housing art, temporary exhibitions and other aviation subjects. 13 May 2002 saw the relocation of the RAF's Conservation Centre from Cardington, Bedfordshire to Cosford. The Centre was opened by Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Michael Beetham and it is named after him. The Cosford site includes several developmental aircraft such as those that led to the English Electric Lightning and the second prototype of the BAC TSR-2. In 2006 British Airways (BA) ceased to finance the BA Collection, after which the RAF Museum did not take on the costs of maintaining the aircraft. Several of the jet airliners have subsequently been broken up, including the only Boeing 707 that was preserved in the UK, a Vickers VC-10 and a Hawker Siddeley Trident.

RAF Tornado GR1 - Recruitment Video - IX Squadron Training Flight

Finally, the full 30 minute film uploaded for all. This video was primarily used for RAF recruitment in the 1980s, and follows IX Squadron as they go through the process of receiving a tasking, briefing, planning and then executing a full interdiction mission, including aerial refuelling and being bounced by 'hostile' fighters, in the form of the USAF F-5E Aggressor Squadron that was based in the UK at the time. If the Cold War had turned hot, this is the kind of operation the RAF would have been called upon to perform, flying low and fast to deliver nuclear weapons or runway denial ordnance.

Royal Air Force - 'Be Part of the Story' - Brand New TV Advert - RAF Intelligence

'Be Part of the Story - An Important Find' Is the Brand New TV advert for the Royal Air Force featuring Corporal Paul Farthing, a RAF Intelligence Analyst, recreating a real life story. Cpl Farthing was a imagery intelligence analyst deployed in the middle east and was tasked with exploiting tactical reconnaissance imagery to find hostile activity. While scanning through images, Cpl Farthing noticed the tell tale signs of an insurgent rocket launcher that was posing a direct threat to British Forces. His quick actions to identify and report the intelligence enabled the RAF to quickly target and clear the location for an air strike, destroying the rocket and removing the treat. Cpl Farthing's keen eye and quick thinking no doubt prevented a very serious incident. He is just one example from a team of specialists, both regular and Reserve, who work together to keep our forces safe and get the mission done. RAF EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON DISPLAY 2011. . . NOT!!! (airshowvision)

At this time of year we are usually anxiously awaiting the new Royal Air Force Typhoon display. However, with 10 of the UK Typhoons out in Italy enforcing the UN Libyan no-fly zone there are seemingly not enough aircraft left to perform displays at weekends, (despite the RAF managing to find 2 examples for a Royal wedding flypast - full of people who couldn't give af*** whether the Typhoon was present or not!) Anyway it appears the 2011 airshow will have to wait. However this display from the PDA in 2009 is a great substitute, and the best Typhoon display I have ever seen, & the only one where the Typhoon visibly looks like a far superior aircraft to the F16 (which of course it is), so enjoy this instead while we wait for the 2011 display, hopefully before mid season. . .? I doubt the new display will be better than this, but who knows - this is an absolute scorcher, with loads of steep climbs, and dives back towards the crowd, plus a great flick manouver, and new negative G dive. Enjoy!
