Canon Legria HF S21 Shot at 25fps in bright daylight, Vivid setting Handheld, with Image Stabilization in some parts Aperture Priority for some shots (2.2 - 2.8) Edited in iMovie 09 Despite what Apple and Canon say, the PAL Legria model of this camera is NOT entirely compatible with iMovie 09 when shot at 50i. This was a huge disappointment to say the least and I only found this out when shooting, despite doing much research before purchase. I think the Vixia model is ok with Mac, but with the Legria, iMovie has problems with the interlacing when shot at 50i as it does not recognize it as interlaced. The workaround is to shoot at 25fps, or to shoot on 50i and then when importing to iMovie 09, import as Large format, not original size. This will slightly downgrade your file, but it somehow sorts out the problem of interlacing. Apple and Canon both write that this model IS compatible with iMovie, but it is not entirely true when shooting at 50i. I hope software will catch up and Apple will release an update to iMovie to correct this problem for PAL countries! I still haven't figured out the best settings for saving on iMovie with this new camera so I'm not sure if the quality could be even better. I don't know how this camcorder works with Windows and Movie Maker. Other than that I am very pleased with the sharpness of the video. A camcorder that fits in the palm of one's hand yet produces extremely high quality HDV? This one I must take for a test drive - seeing is believing. The Canon Legria S21 literally fits into the palm of one's hand. I set a day aside to test it out. It was ideal weather, overcast, some light rain and the occassional heavy breeze. This small camcorder produced remarkable images under these conditions. As a result of the camcorder's light weight as opposed to my XH-A1 and XL2 it is recommended that a tripod and/or bean bag be used. The battery drains very (VERY) fast, therefore if you're going to invest in the Legria make sure you invest in an additional long life battery. To remove the battery one unfortunately needs to remove the tripod shoe from the camcorder. Hopefully Canon will find a solution going forward. The Legria S21 is a "tapeless" camcorder using an "on board" memory of 64 GB with two slots for additional memory cards. It also takes 8 mega pixel photographs. This can be done simultaneously whilst recording video. All it takes is a press on the button on top of the camcorder. The camcorder's operating system is all "touch screen" that needs some getting used to, but once you've crossed this hurdle it's a pleasure. Manual settings used in this short video were focus and exposure. The camcorder has a relative shallow depth of field which results in great video. The "touch screen" manual focus makes the use of "rack focus" simple and very effective. It's great <b>...</b>

Yes, the Canon Vixia HF S21 is here, and it sits at the top of Canon's HD totem pole for 2010. With the ability to record 1920x1080 HD video at 24Mbps in four different frame rates, the Vixia HF S21 is a tough machine to beat. The monster also roars with a 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD that functioned excellently, and a host of semi-pro features like dual SDHC card slots, Zebra patterns, peaking, and Gain control. We liked using the Control dial, which could be assigned to three different Manual controls, but wish Canon had added a lens ring instead. AVCHD, though in its honeymoon stage, is still a relatively new format, so if you're looking for a simple drag-and-drop video file solution, the HF S21 will not help you unless you have a firm knowledge of NLEs. This is a stunning film in full 1080p HD that I created of New York City during night time, using my Canon Vixia HF S21 along with my WD-H58 wide angle lens attachment. I color corrected and changed the aspect ratio to 2.35:1 to give this video the ultimate film look. This video features amazing professional shots of the city streets, time lapse, and of course, unsurpassed quality. I shot using my wide angle lens at 24 MBPS or MXP for best results. I also used a high speed memory card to compensate the high bit rate. I used Final Cut Pro 7 to edit and add the color correction. This is an amazing short film of the shores of New York coast in stunning, pristine Full 1080p HD at 24p. This video features remarkable shots of the ocean waves in slow motion, cinematic resolution, film style quality and feel, and more. This film was shot by HiiDefinition with the Canon Vixia HF S21 along with a wide angle lens converter, model WD-H58. I also used a couple of filters to enhance the picture. This video also shows how the ordinary shots can be turned into the up most extraordinary with color correction and proper cinematic aspect ratio. All the slow motion shots were captured at 60i, and then the frame rate was cut in half to create slow motion images. I edited this video in Final Cut Pro 7, and I distorted each clip by negative 33% to give the proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The Canon Legria is undoubtedly an amazing little camcorder. After my initial "test run" of the Legria I took took it to one of my favourite places, the small village of Kaapsehoop (Kaapschehoop) a steep drive from where I live. A place full of history of the 1800's "gold rush". A place where the weather changes within minutes. Sunshine, rolling mist, heavy clouds and rain. When when editing the footage I used time lapse and slow motion in some of the scenes. Very little colour correction was done.

Motion was also better with 24p native.. Hand held shot. w/ Powered OIS. The new powerd OIS works great, it was a very wind day & it did very well @ 10x zoom. A much better OIS then the HF S100.
