The Mercedes-Benz W220 was a series of flagship sedans which constituted the Mercedes-Benz S-Class during the early-to-mid 2000's. The W220 (and similar W215 CL-Class coupés) started production in 2000. The W220 was a replacement for the earlier W140 S-Class after the 1999 model year. Compared to its predecessor, the W220 had somewhat smaller exterior dimensions but offered more interior space, particularly in the long wheelbase versions (although the boot is smaller than on its W140 predecessor). Production of the W220 totalled 485000 units, slightly more than the production totals from the W140. Production ended in 2006 when the W220 and W215 were replaced by the W221 S-Class and the W216 CL-Class. In many European countries, the diesel S320 CDI version became the most popular model, making it the first S-Class in which a diesel engine achieved broad appeal. The W220 was not the first model to feature the company's new design theme for the next generation of Mercedes-Benz. This honor was given to the A-Class launched in 1997. Nevertheless, the W220 demonstrated a significantly different stylistic mindset, with both exterior lines and an interior design that express elegance and modernity. This can be seen as a response to criticism on its W140 predecessor, which was sometimes labelled as too big and too heavy. I sell A LOT of 600 500 420 and 320 cars and the W140 is pretty much the top of the line..;-P From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Development on the W140 began in 1981, originally set for an autumn 1989 release. From 1982 to 1986 several designs were reviewed, until December 1986 when the final design was approved. Several prototypes were tested onwards from early 1987. A delay was made to accommodate a V12 engine and resulted in the final prototype being completed in June 1990. Pilot production models were made from July 1990 to January 1991. The Mercedes-Benz W140 was a series of flagship vehicles manufactured by the German automotive marque Mercedes-Benz. The car premiered at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1991, with the first examples rolling off the production line on August 6, 1991. Short (SE) and long (SEL) wheelbase sedans were offered initially, as well as the coupé (SEC) body style from January 1992. Like all Mercedes-Benz lines, the W140 S-Class was rationalized in late 1993 using the new "letter-first" nomenclature, dropping the named distinction between body styles. The SE/SEL/SEC cars were renamed the S-Class, with alphanumerical designations inverted. For example the both 500SE and 500SEL became S500 regardless of wheelbase length. In 1996 the coupé models following a mid-life update where separated into the CL-class. My friends S600 W140 "as is".... I believe he has plans to do some styling mods when time and money permit, probably in the near future. It currently has Brabus monoblocks and a Brabus bumper - and a straight exhaust... noisy beast. Ive been told he wants to modernise the look a bit somehow - something along the lines of new rims and custom bodykit... but for now, hope you enjoy the video. Rendered in Premiere CS4 and shot on a Canon HG21 Thanks to the camera girl who risked life and limb occasionally leaning right out of the window filming while the W140s coasted along at speeds of up to and around 160Kmph .

W140 S600 "Weiss" Engine Noise
This V12 S600 doesnt have the stock silencer - hence its very noisy. I believe the exhaust is better suited to an S500 V8 - it would give a warm sound to the engine, however the V12 doesnt have that low rumble that the V8s are famous for - instead its just loud. Its great to have the windows up and hear the roar - but outside its noisy as hell. I can actually hear this car being driven around the neighborhood from my living room. Not my car, its my friends but since I had the opportunity to use it, I thought I would record the cars sound volume. Also with the recent events in Japan - Earthquakes, tidal waves and reactor leaks causing around 20000 deaths and polluting the air,food and water, I didnt know if I would get the opportunity to film this car again, so I grabbed the camera and did the best I could with a free hour in the afternoon.
