This is a simple observation in my opinion of the Ruger sp101's recoil and how a woman would handle firing/shooting this particular handgun. I did this review based on my first time firing this gun and how powerful the 158gr 357mag ammo is in this little snub nose revolver. I am by no means a professional nor do I profess to be. The Ruger SP-101 defies the odds. At a stout 26 ounce, this little stainless steel subcompact revolver remains a huge seller for Ruger and very popular with all types of dudes. Compared against much lighter weight alternatives like the Ruger LCR, SW Centennial, Bodyguard, or Scandium framed J-frames, the SP-101 is a portly CCW carry companion. And yet it prevails and sells. Many responsible civilians, LEOs, homeowners, and outdoorsman opt for the little SP-101 as their first choice. To hold and shoot the SP-101 is to begin to undersand why. First, its heft provides what I feel is a certain shootability is such a small form factor. If you haven't done it recently, find opportunity to do a reality check in shooting a .357 load in a subcompact revolver. The word "unpleasant" comes to mind for most with the Scandium framed S&Ws being tortuous in nature. But the 26 ounce SP-101, while still no full size or heavy gun, does manage to tame these loads to controllable and for some (like masochists like myself) even enjoyable levels (which to me opens up recreational shooting opportunities in this small gun). For many, like myself, the SP-101 is enjoyable to shoot but all will understand in practice that it is difficult to shoot well at distance. But with .357 full power loads, it is a hand cannon which barks and spits fire with authority. Maybe now we can understand its appeal. And more importantly, this little cannon is built tough and rugged, able to withstand such battering <b>...</b>

I put a pretty stainless Ruger SP 101 in .357 Magnum up against a Glock 33 in 357SIG. The results surprised me. Both are fantastic weapons for concealed carry but watch what happens while shooting and handling these guns. Interesting results!

My wife shooting her new Ruger SP101. This is the new 2011 22LR model. My impression is that this is a very good pistol for someone just learning to shoot. The grip is very comfortable for smaller hands, and the trigger is light and quick in single-action. The high-visibility front sight is also a nice touch.

Hello YouTube. This is my first video so please be kind. I'm showing off my first firearm purchase - the Ruger SP101. I purchased a set of used Badger Grips (boot size) in black off of eBay for an upgrade. I also purchased a set of Small Wonder Sights (green) from www.geminicustoms.com. I still have yet to try these upgrades at the range, but I will when I go to www.thebulletstop.com to pick up my Kahr PM9. I'll give an update after the range. Allegedly the badger grips help with the recoil of those .357 magnums on this 2 1/4" snub. We'll see... Stay tuned. 3" SP101 with 158 gr JSP .357 magnum. Shot into a coffee container filled with old used coffee filters. Shooting down sights with camera was hard to see, 2nd shot was fired at a hole in the snow that I thought was the can.. *face palm Thats why the later "1st person" view wasn't done down sights.

The process was a little long and Ruger tried to get me to pay for the shipping the first time around, but they finally shipped the gun and replaced it, because they deemed the first gun "Unrepairable". There was a minor difference in the second gun. Ruger appears to have changed the hammer that they are putting on the new guns. I give the overall process an 80-85%. Between the 6 weeks it took to get the new gun back, and the fact that I had to press them to pay for the shipping dropped the score. It had problems with the cylinder lock up when the hammer was back resulting in lead being shaved off the bullets. Shooting the SP101 with Speers .357 Magnum 125gr Gold Dot hollowpoints. The recoil was violent, but even worse was the muzzle blast. Some folks might enjoy such things, but not me! I'll take a pass on any more of these out of the SP101. I'll try their 135gr short barrel Magnum loads, but until then I'll stick with .38 +Ps. I think it's pretty obvious I couldn't adequately control the gun with this round in a defensive situation.

The weight gives it a solid feel and very little recoil. Sights are precise and easy to see. Grip is comfortable and will fit both large and small hand sizes. The only drawback I can see to this revolver is the double action trigger pull is rather heavy. I see a trigger job in the near future for this gun. Thanks for watching!!! This is a show and tell video of my Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum. The primary reason why I purchased this is to repalce an old Taurus Model 74 in .32 S&W Long. I have a ton of .32 S&W Long ammo and had nothing to shoot it in, so I opted to get a pistol that could not only fire the .32 S&W Long, but .32 H&R and .327 Federal Magnum cartridges. Of course, it can fire the old .32 S&W Cartridge, too. I have always liked .32 caliber and the .327 Federal is probably the maximum potential that will be gained from that caliber in a handgun cartridge..

This is a video of me shooting my Ruger SP101 .327 Magnum and Taurus 617SS .357 magnum. I use .32 S&W, .32 H&R Magnum and .327 Federal Magnum in the Ruger. I used .357 Magnum cartridges in the Taurus.I find both to be excellent revolvers, but I give the edge to the Ruger, simply because it can fire so many different cartridges and has windage adjustable sights. The Taurus shines in that it fires a more powerful cartridge and has a 7 shot cylinder compared to the 6 shot Ruger. I don' t think you can go wrong with either revolver. This video was shot shortly after manually performing some tree cutting, so my heart rate was pretty high. Part of that led to some inaccuracy on my part. Also, I found that my point of aim did not correspond with the point of impact, and I did not adjust to this fact during this shooting. It occurred to me later that that was part of the reason for shooting high. Physical fatigue leads to mental mistakes, but I think one must prepare under unusual conditions to be better able to perform when the adversities are real. NOTE: I reannotated the video because I actually fired the .327 Federal cartridges BETWEEN the .32 S&W and the .32 H&R Magnum.
Brand new from Ruger is the SP101 22. This is an awesome shooting little gun. I put around 500 rounds through this the other day. It held about a 3 inch group at 50ft with CCI Quiets. Thanks for watching and please comment if you have any questions.
