I used the Sunpak Platinum Plus 7500 Pro tripod for this video, along with the Canon HV20. All demo shots were done with no practice. This technique is not meant for very large or heavy cameras, but is ideal for consumer-sized camcorders like the HV20.

Here's a little instructional vid I did to show you how to make a steadicam for your iPhone (it also works great for small camcorders). Be sure to check out the demo vid over at www.aetherdrinker.blogspot.com. Edit: Not trying to take credit for inventing any part of this, lots of people have great posts on YouTube and elsewhere on how to make every part of this, and I highly recommend them. I can't credit them all, so use the search bar or Google. This is just my take on how to do it for an iPhone or small camcorder. It's just for fun. Edit 2: Thanks for all the comments, I'm using your advice to tweak this thing and post one more video (and then I'm done with this thing, it's on to more useful tools). Right now this is more a stabilizer than a steadicam. A real steadicam needs to be completely balanced, which this rig is not. So stay tuned. Also as some have pointed out BE CAREFUL HEATING PVC PIPE! IF IT BURNS IT IS HIGHLY TOXIC (puts off Dioxin)! Don't let it catch fire, and perform in a well ventilated area, preferably with a mask. And the camera I used to film this How To was a Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm 1.2L lens. No lighting, or post effects were used. Uses 1 x 1/2" steel bar, some nuts, bolts and a traxxas 1951 R/CU joint. There really is no replacing a steadicam set up of you are going to take video or film... and think you will walk, run, move. I have improved the look and feel of all my moving video shots by using this simple and inexpensive tool.

I've been meaning to do a steadicam test on the Canon 550D (T2i) for a long time but when I got the GoPro and then an iphone I thought it would be a great idea to see if this cheap stabilizer could be used with all of them. I tried it but they didn't really work very well being so light. Then I had an idea the other day that if I added a tripod head that would add the weight and make it much easier to balance out. And it worked. With a few basic adjustments of the bottom weights and playing around sliding the cameras backwards and forwards on the top I was able to balance them quite well as you can see. I was going to go out and shoot some test footage of these three cameras with the Hague but decided I'll leave that for another day. I've filmed with the new Merlin Arm and Vest system for about 15 / 20 minutes, and never got tired. It even felt like only two minutes had passed.
