Jonathan Sadowski, the recipient of the first heart-kidney transplant at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, was interviewed days before his transplant. He discusses what his life has been like, how he ended up needing a multi-organ transplant, and what his goals are for the future. The transplant was performed in two stages, with Washington University heart transplant surgeon I-wen Wang, MD, PhD, performing the five-hour heart transplant in the evening on June 2. The Life of Chris Sadowski
Diagnosed with Multiply Myeloma in November 2007, and succumbing to cancer on April 11, 2008, my brother Chris fought an unwinnable battle. I made this heartfelt tribute to him because i wanted to make sure that wherever he may be, if he can see it, that his life had meaning and that he touched the lives of so many. His life made a difference and i will always remember him. I only hope one day soon some breakthrough will allow us to either prevent or stay the hand of cancer. No one should have to die that way.
