Qaseeda Burdah Shareef Part 1 THE POEM OF THE CLOAK The Burda, or the Prophet's Mantle or Cloak, is a qasida (poem) composed by Imam Sharafuddin Muhammad Al-Busiri, may Allah have mercy on him. Imam Busiri was born in Egypt in 608 AH and died in 695 AH (corresponding to 1212 CE to 1296 CE). Imam Busiri composed the qasida after suffering from a stroke which left him partially paralysed. He prayed to Allah for a cure then fell asleep. In a dream, he saw himself reciting the qasida to the Holy Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, who then touched the paralysed part of his body and threw his mantle or Burda over him. On awakening, he discovered he had been cured of his paralysis. The verses of The Burda have since been learned by heart and inscribed on the walls of mosques and madrassas all over the Muslim world, and it is congregationally recited all over the world. More than 90 commentaries have been written on this qasida, and it has been translated in Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Berber, Punjabi, French, and German, to name but a few languages. The Burda is in 10 parts and has 160 verses all of which end with the Arabic letter Meem.

MashaAllah, the rhythmic recitation of the qaseedah presented by Ahbab al Mustafa truly penetrates into the hearts of those who hear it....................... This is the part of the qaseedah written by the remarkable Egyptian Sufi Shaykh Imam Sharafuddin Muhammad Al-Busiri . It is a classical Arabic literature which reveal magnificently his immense love for Rasullullah(pbuh). The phrases are truly meaningful as it contains rich metaphorical and high aesthetic value which can create an inspiring mood and atmosphere when reciting it, InshaAllah. He wrote the qaseedah when he suffered from being paralyzed half of his body. He prayed to Allah to heal him, and he recover from his illness after he recited it to Rasullullah (pbuh) ( in his dream) who touched the paralyzed part of his body and threw his mantle (Burda) over him. He was miraculously cured by Allah SWT through the immense blessings in reciting it with love and devotion. This impressive poem recitation which is performed by a group from Yemen (Ahbab al-Mustafa) in a traditional style of Yemeni truly create strong emotion in the hearts of those who hear it, InshaAllah..
