Unwound - The Future of What - Re-Enact the Crime

en.wikipedia.org www.amazon.com My First video, song is only 2:42 . Please excuse the extra silence. Song came up on one of my Pandora radio stations and wanted to share the song with some friends. Couldn't find anything on youtube so I decided to remedy the situation. Track is too great to not be shared. "Unwound was a United States noise rock band based in Tumwater/Olympia, Washington. Formed in 1991, the band consisted of Justin Trosper (vocals, guitar, songwriting), Vern Rumsey (bass), and Brandt Sandeno (drums), all of whom had previously been in a band called Giant Henry. Brandt Sandeno quit Unwound in 1992 and was replaced by Sara Lund. This line-up would remain in place until the band's dissolution in 2002. The group was strongly associated with the label Kill Rock Stars throughout the 1990s. Unwound was sharply dissonant and angular, often resorting to unusual guitar tones, and associated with post-hardcore and noise rock. The band toured frequently, preferring "all ages" clubs. The group spawned numerous side projects."

Unwound - Caterpillar

The first single ever recorded by Unwound, released in 1991 on the Kill Rock Stars label. This is what Slim Moon (founder of the label) has to say about it: "So basically I started the label expressly to put out Unwound records because I thought Unwound was an incredibly exciting band that K records and Sub Pop were totally overlooking. Unwound put out a cassette release, and then we decided to put out a 7" basically just because that is how it was done in those days - the 80s and early 90s in indie rock were all about putting out a bunch of 7"s and then eventually an album. So I connected the band with Steve Fisk, and this was recorded in a couple days at Avast. One of the songs on the B-Side, "Love and Fear," was my favorite song in their live set and I begged them to include it on this single. Justin didn't really want to but he went along with it. In retrospect, I think I understand now that it was a song that was a lot more like the songs on the cassette release (poppier and more stereotypically "grunge" than their later sound), and his songwriting was evolving away from that. I like the other two songs on this 7" a lot more than "Love and Fear" now." This single displays quite an unlikeley grunge influence in it's sound and it was recorded with Brandt Sandeno on percussion (before Sara Lundt came aboard). Enjoy!

Unwound Terminus

Perhaps the most musically abrasive group in the world of indie-rock, Unwound specialize in a dense collection of crushing power chords rising to feedback, melding the noise of Sonic Youth's more raucous passages with a rare energetic flair which rivals even that of Fugazi. Formed in 1991 in a small town close to the indie-rock nerve center of Olympia, Washington, Unwound was originally a trio of vocalist/guitarist Justin Trosper, bassist Vern Rumsey and drummer Brandt Sandeno.

Butterfly - Soft Hands

Setting up a good butterfly starts with something easy, letting the hands stay soft on the entry. Why do it: Focusing on allowing the hands to softly enter, and stay close to the surface during the initial press, builds up a tension point through your chest that has the body wanting a return to it's natural state. This helps swimmers use more of their body on butterfly, not just the arms. How to do it (Illustrations). We're going to show five great swimmers all doing the same thing... allowing the hands to stay soft and high upon entry as the chest and head press below. While you watch these swimmers, try to gain an understanding of the tension that's built up through the chest and lats. First up is Robert Margalis. Hands high, head and chest land below, then the body rebounds back as the hands fall. Next is Misty Hyman. A bit deeper press than Robert, but hands still high, head and chest below. Now watch Kaitlin Sandeno. High hands on entry, head and chest below. Eric Shanteau. Same trait again. Lastly, Erik Vendt. The pattern is the same. If you don't feel this connection, or stretch at the front of your stroke, you may be trying to lead down to the undulation with your hands. Doing this will cause you to miss this natural and necessary part of butterfly. You can see the full video of each and all of these athletes at our website, goswim.tv
