Purchase CD / LP / MP3 here: www.polyvinylrecords.com The video was conceived of and designed by Brooklyn-based illustrator Dan-ah Kim, and executed with the help of director Aaron Stewart-Ahn. For the first time Kim is directing a work of her own, collaborating with Stewart-Ahn for his technical knowledge. The pair met while working as crew on a Michel Gondry project. For Dan-ah the video was a chance to experiment with animation, which was done in camera without the aid of computers or greenscreens. Dan-ah's illustrative works can be seen at www.dkim-art.com. In the past year she has shown at Thinkspace in LA and Giant Robot in NYC. Aaron Stewart-Ahn last conceived of and traveled the world for Death Cab for Cutie's I Will Possess Your Heart clip, which won an MTV video music award and a prestigious award from the Camerimage film festival in Poland. Dan-ah was a crew member on the two week journey around the globe, which led to their desire to collaborate further.

www.smirkingloon.com feed.stashmedia.tv Director/animator Ryan Bosworth of the newly-hatched Fenix Collective just completed this 3 1/2 minute orgy of origami for the band Asobi Seksu and volunteers this snapshot of the production, "The "Goodbye" video was shot in two days here in Los Angeles. The first day we shot the band with a Canon XL1 on a white screen because of the 4:1:1 color space. The second day we photographed hi-res paper textures and stop action paper folding sequences. The post production was a 2 month process of creating 3D animations, compositing, and 2D animating. I used Maya and Cinema 4D to create the 3D geometry and textured the animated objects with the paper photography. After Effects was used to combine the animation elements and create the luminance mattes from the band footage. Final Cut Pro was used to edit and finish the video."

Asobi Seksu - "Trails": SXSW 2011 Music
The signs in Chris Zane's (The Walkmen, Passion Pit, Tokyo Police Club) studio couldn't have been any clearer: "Don't Overthink It" and one simple word: "BOLD." Or as Asobi Seksu guitarist/singer James Hanna puts it, "This time, our agenda was to not have one at all; to be mellow about the entire process instead of obsessing over everything." Maybe mellow isn't the right word, unless he's comparing the band's fourth proper full-length (Fluorescence) to a coiled-up cobra or unconscious crocodile: temperamental types that are one false move away from striking. After all, "Coming Up" sets the scene by plowing into beehive-like synth lines and warp speed washes of dream-pop that leave you wondering just what the hell is going on. Things don't let up on "Trails," either, as singer/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate sets her immaculate melodies against a barrage of battery-powered chords. Catchy and chaotic to the core, the sky-scraping song pays homage to the pitch-perfect songwriting of the '60s by chartering a yellow submarine to the moon. And when the Brooklyn-based quartet (rounded out by bassist Billy Pavone and drummer Larry Gorman) finally hits the ground, their color-saturated soundscapes don't get dull or cold. They get even brighter, as Fluorescence's many shades shift with each passing song. That includes everything from the expansive/erratic -- and yet, oh-so-poppy -- prog movements of "Leave the Drummer Out There" to the weightless balladry of "Ocean," a track that <b>...</b>
