8/16 STEP ANALOG SEQUENCER

This analog sequencer has the function to switch eight steps to 16 steps.
Max For Live Melodic Step Sequencer

Novation have launched StepSeq, a free Max For Live Patch that turns Launchpad into a fully fledged melodic step sequencer. Conceived as a cool but powerful sequencer to enable Launchpad users to programme melodies, leads and basslines quickly in Live, the buttons are configured diatonically (as opposed to chromatically, as with a traditional step sequencer). The degree of the scale and its tonal centre can be set by the user, meaning that, once set up, any note you trigger in your sequence will fit in harmonically with your track, making it really easy to keep within the context of the song.
BeatBearing demo

A tangible rhythm sequencer. Ball bearings are used to trigger (Roland TR-808) drum sounds. Visual feedback is provided from a CRT display underneath to indicate the current time and the state of each beat. More information can be found at both my homepage: www.peteinfo.com the BeatBearing project site: www.beatbearing.co.uk And my blog petes-sonic-art-research.blogspot.com The BeatBearing was created as part of my PhD research in the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), at Queens University, Belfast. The Bubblegum Sequencer - Making Music With Candy

The Bubblegum Sequencer is a physical step sequencer that lets you create drumloops by arranging colored balls on a tangible surface. It generates MIDI events and can be used as an input device to control audio hardware and software. Finally, people can't claim anymore that electronic music isn't handmade. For more information, visit backin.de Update: In some instances, the sequencer plays notes that aren't actually on the table. This is due to the computer vision picking up background light and general noise.

Roland MC-8 Sequencer Demo Song - ODD RHYTHMS

This is one of the demo scores in the Roland MC-8 manual. It's a piece called "Odd Rhythms," written by the inventor of the MC-8, Ralph Dyck. I decided to spend a couple of hours punching this thing in to see what it sounds like. The lead, bass and chords are playing back on a Roland SH-101 (overdubbed via the MC-8's tape sync one monophonic line at a time), and the cymbal and conga are playing back on a SCI Pro-One. For the cymbal, I had to use VCF accents instead of the VCA accents the score calls for, because the Pro-One doesn't have a CV in for the VCA. I didn't spend much time on the sounds or on the mix, so it is what it is. But as you can see, you can get as musically complex as you want with the MC-8. here's an mp3 of the music: www.shitteo.com and here's the data for any other mc8 users out there: www.shitteo.com also, i've just started a blog about the mc8 here: rolandmc8.wordpress.com

DOEPFER DARK TIME Sequencer + ARP Odyssey, Minimoog, Korg MS-20, Korg Monopoly | HQ DEMO

The DARK TIME is a fantastic analog sequencer. It has MIDI, CV / Gate and also TRIGGER IN / OUT for vintage sequencers or rhythm machines. In my opinion, it is much more comfortable than the Korg SQ-10, which I had. The steps run not just forwards - they also can run backwards or in random. Also a great feature is the quantizer - like on the ARP sequencer. In MIDI mode, the two rows can send at two different MIDI channels. The DOEPFER DARK TIME was originally designed to be used with the DOEPFER DARK ENERGY synth, but you can use it with every synthesizer which has MIDI or CV/GATE. Sometimes (it depends on your synth) you will need a converter or a additional interface (for example: ARP needs +12 volts to trigger the envelopes instead of +5V; Also the Minimoog needs a switch trigger). I always wanted a sequencer like this! I played the Doepfer DARK TIME with ARP ODYSSEY, MINIMOOG, KORG MS-20, KORG MONO/POLY and YAMAHA TQ-5. There is also a sequence, where the Dark Time is synced with a Roland CR-78 (through trigger signals, not MIDI) and controls an ARP Odyssey at the same time.

siftables music sequencer

A music sequencer that uses Siftables as the interface. There are three "voices" - lead, bass and drums. Each voice has four variations, accessible via the four sides of the siftable. The way to make a piece is to first construct a sequence, using the blank "sequence" siftables, then insert voices into the sequence by bumping the voice siftables up against the sequence siftables. A voice can be removed by bumping the siftable against the sequence siftable a second time. A voice can have an effect applied to it - like reverb or a sweepable filter (like wah), by bumping an effect siftable up against it. While the effect is applied, the voice siftable will have a small circle shown on it, with the color of the effect siftable, and the effect can be tweaked by tilting the effect siftable left and right. There are also effects that apply to the entire sequence, like tempo and volume. These effects are always engaged, and they can be changed by tilting. As soon as they are set flat, the effect stops changing. Sequences can be made shorter or longer, or re-arranged at any time by moving the sequence siftables around. Music engine by Josh Kopin

Sequencer Version2

This is the follow up to version 1. It can be made out of a single NXT2.0 kit. The motor spins the device around and the colour sensor is constantly taking readings. Each colour is assigned a different note. For this test I was lucky that the carpet gave a reading of 'black' and as such, no note is played. Building instructions are available on the website - www.damienkee.com
Using LibreOffice as a Tracker/Sequencer (I suck at Spreadsheets)

Watch in 720p. Quick HowTo: www.youtube.com A Spreadsheet could be used as a music sequencer. The sound actually isn't produced by LibreOffice but by SuperCollider. Python is used to bridge the applications via CSV/OSC. If you know your Spreadsheet software well the built in functions can be used. I don't! I also struggle with the interface :-) The last time i used spreadsheets is 10 years ago or so. This was the second time trying this so i make a lot of mistakes. It's more a proof of concept. This was a 3 hour hack so don't excpect much from the source code. But here it is: www.cappel-nord.de I don't give any support :-). I did it for the lulz.

The case was made to my specifications by Will and JJ at www.wernick.net , big thanks to them. It has powder coated aluminium chassis and bubinga wood end pieces, and it looks the bollocks. The electronics are work in progress, I still have to add CV trigger outs, 2 internal LFO's, and CV ins for external modulation.

Catgirl CGS Analog Gate Sequencer 1 of 2

Catgirl Synth Analog Gate Sequencer built by Thomas White (www.naturalrhythmmusic dot com) from pcb's designed by Ken Stone. "Dual" Gate Sequencer design with 4 x Gate/Pulse Outs. You will hear that Gate outs are a full duplication of the incoming clock signal while pulse outputs are half the length of the incoming gate signal. You can have all 8 pulse outs on for a given channel and hear 8 separate pulses. If you set one channel to 8 "gates" you will hear one long held note. This allows for really cool patterns with VCO's and the like, but even cooler sounds with drum patches. Imagine choosing between two note lengths on your 808 or 909 for snares or claps or whatever... imagine no more, this thing can do it with modular sound sources. Enjoy!

Lego Sequencer

This is a musical sequencer made out of lego. There's a row of eight spots to put legos, representing notes. Each color is a different pitch. The lego sequencer was constructed by Ben Judge using the amazing LogoChip ( www.wellesley.edu ), a PIC microcontroller running an interpreter for the easy to use logo language.
