Sewing Tutorial: Retro Chic DIY Circle Skirt!

Impress your friends with a DIY circle skirt! It's the ideal project for beginners because it's super easy, but is very tailored looking and wearable. You will need: -Fabric. I aim for 60" wide fabric, as 45" would make a skirt too short for my tastes. And then I buy an equal length to the width (so that I end up with a square). -matching thread -a zipper -interfacing (optional: If your fabric is stiff you probably could do without, but I find that in the long run interfacing gives me a much cleaner, more professional look) ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just accidentally deleted the long detailed description and instructions I was typing. I'm going to bed.

How to Sew a Simple Pillow or Dog Bed

In this tutorial, How to Sew a Simple Pillow (or Dog Bed) I show you how to make your own pattern and create a pillow using an old pair of jeans. This pillow is to be used as a dog bed, but you can use the same idea for making decorative pillows for your couch, chair or bed! To view the article associated with this video, click here: cyberseams.com To answer some of the questions: - Yes you can use a pillowcase instead, but it's a thinner fabric and may not last long since dogs sometimes tear up their bedding a little bit. - If you have a large dog (like a Rottweiler, as was asked), you would have to piece several pieces of denim together, or have a very large pair of jeans to start out with. - I believe I machine stitched the open end closed, but you can hand sew it as well. - Yes, you can hand sew the sides if you do not have a machine - just be sure to use a strong thread, and you might want to do a double stitch or something for extra reinforcement. - My dog is a Pomeranian :) For more sewing tricks, tips and tutorials, visit us at cyberseams.com !

How to Make a Sewing Machine Cover

Learn how to custom make your own sewing machine cover! In this video I teach you how to take the measurements needed and translate them onto fabric to create a cute cover for your machine. This is a great beginner project and requires only a few materials to create! All you need is the fabric of your choice, fusible fleece (or batting/felt) and a coordinating thread. Fabric used in this tutorial is from the Jay McCarroll Habitat line for FreeSpirit: freespiritfabric.com Supplies: fabric of your choice- can be solid or pieced Pellon Fusible Fleece (or batting/felt) rulers rotary cutter +mat pins sewing machine coordinating thread iron Measuring/ cutting requirements: Measure the length, width and height of your sewing machine and write those numbers down. If the measurement is close to the next inch measurement up, go ahead and round it up. This will help you account for your seam allowance. 1. Take your length measurement and add 1". 2. Then calculate your height + width + height measurement. In other words, the height measurement x 2 + width. The measurements you end up with in steps 1 & 2 are the length and width measurements of the large fabric piece you need to cut for your cover. Then you will need 2 side panel pieces that measure height x width of your machine. Also cut 3 corresponding pieces of Pellon Fusible Fleece to match your fabric pieces. Sewing Tutorial: Draped "Curtain" Tank Top

This tutorial gets its name from a Maddox article where he calls this type of shirt "tit curtains." www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net While I agree that it's not the most figure-flattering design, it can definitely be cute with the right accessories (ie. a belt). This would also definitely work as a dress. Just make it longer. You will need: -Fabric -bias tape -thread -sewing machine or needle for hand sewing To calculate how much fabric you will need measure how long you want the shirt/dress to be, then add 2" for hem allowances, then multiply by two, and add 4-6" for where it comes up in the front. Cut your fabric into two strips along the weft (width wise as opposed to length wise), with one strip being 4-6" longer than the other. On the bigger piece of fabric, fold it in quarters and then cut a curve out of it so that when you unfold it, it will have two points, one 1/4 of the way across, and the other will be 3/4 of the way across. Then sew the bigger piece of fabric, or the "front piece" (the one with the curves) to the smaller piece of fabric, or the "back piece" (the one that is just a rectangle). Make sure that the side seams on both pieces of fabric are the same length. If they aren't the same length or close to the same length, you might have to adjust your curve or make on of the pieces shorter. Word to the wise: cut your shirt longer than you think you want it. YOu can always make it shorter later, but you can never make it longer. Your shirt will seem to lose ...

sewing a prom dress

I made a prom dress recently, and decided to film some of it. While this isn't really a full on tutorial, it will give budding designers and fashionistas alike an idea of what goes into making a dress. 1. Draft a sloper. I take a piece of fabric and I drape it over the person. I cut away any fabric that is obviously in the way (armholes, neck hole, etc.). And then I pin it in a few key places to anchor (the apex of the bust and the center seam). Then I smooth the fabric with my hand to move any wrinkles into darts. There are basically 3 places you should make darts: -waist to bust -side to bust -shoulder These can be adjusted, moved, or rotated later, if you so wish. Once I am satisfied with the sloper, I will sketch the outline of the dress that I want. For example, for this dress I would have sketched in a v-neckline, ad then also sketched in a curved, scooped back. 2. I cut the pattern up. First along the outline/shape that was sketched in, and then along the darts or side seams. I then lay this piece of fabric on a some graph paper and sketch it's outline. The paper I use is genius. It's that big graph paper that, like, math teachers use. I was looking for big graph paper to draft patterns with, and I went to several art stores looking for what I had in mind. And while I could find a lot of graph paper pads that were big enough, the graph itself was too small, Like 1mm grid. And while technically this would work, the tiny grid was just to small to be helpful, since ...
