I can tell you I agree with everyone else this method is the only full proof way to sex smaller boas. If a young boa has hemipenes its next to impossible to not feel the hemipenes underneath the skin. Sometimes the hemipenes are far down in the tail so make sure you apply firm pressure all the way down. If you are afraid of injuring the animal you may not apply the right pressure needed so make sure if you are nervous about it to get someone experienced to show you. I used probes in this video for illustrative purposes. I don't think boas less than 4ft should be probed as the palpation method is less invasive and more accurate than probing and poping in young boas. Why have so many boas in the past been sexed wrong all these years by experienced keepers? Poping, if the male tightens up in the right way it can prevent hemepenes from everting. Same thing with probing. A male could tighten up and prevent the probe from reaching depths that would classify it as a male as well as you perforating the wall and making the probe go deep in a female. Learn this method and you will see you can sex a rack full of baby snakes with 100% accuracy in minutes!
