Shadowfax was a new age/electronic musical group. The group formed in 1972 and disbanded after 1995 when Lyricon player and leader Chuck Greenberg died of a heart attack. Having lost their signature sound, Shadowfax's members went on to other projects.

In '72, Chuck Greenberg, Phil Maggini & GE Stinson began writing & experimenting musically. By late '73, Doug Maluchnik had joined the trio & Stu joined the band in June of '74. Shortly thereafter they became known as Shadowfax. LONG BEFORE "world beat" became a music industry marketing trend, the Grammy-award winning group Shadowfax was expanding conventional musical boundaries with a unique blend of rhythms and melodies from a variety of rich cultures. Since their inception in Chicago in 1974 to the present time, Shadowfax' unique sounds have made fans all over the world while setting new artistic standards in contemporary jazz, new age and world music. Shadowfax has earned recognition as one of America's premier instrumental ensembles. SHADOWFAX recorded their debut album "Watercourse Way" in 1976 on ABC/Passport Records, but first began to find a wide audience for their music in 1982 when they began recording for the Windham Hill label. Over the past 20 years, the band recorded 10 successful albums, among which "Folksongs For A Nuclear Village" was honored with a Grammy in 1988. Their album "Esperanto" was also nominated for a Grammy in 1992. Shadowfax co-founder, producer and wind player Chuck Greenberg says, "We have always tried to make music that is true to what we feel. We hope that music reaching us on an emotional level, will also reach listeners as well." When I was a kid in the 80'S there used to be a kiosk at the Monterey Bay Aquarium that played a collection of exhibit videos that featured this grate piece by Shadowfax. and was the only segment in the whole video to feature any music. It was one of my most favorite parts of going to the aquarium as a youngster, I kinda wish it was still there makes me sad, THANK YOU so much to who ever originally made the video for the aquarium, and the Aquarium and its great staff over the years, and especially to Shadowfax who I feel very lucky to have seen once live in the mid 90's at a club in Santa Cruz CA , when they played Shadowdance I felt like I was 3 again. the club closed soon after further cementing in the memories , as well as the passing of Chuck Greenburg later that year. I had to redo the audio so as a result I looped part of the video to fit the whole song and it isn't as sinked as the first three quarters of the video. still very happy we tracked this one down. please comment if you remember seeing this video at the aquarium ;)
