Major Abid Majeed Shaheed - Swat Operation Rah-e-Rast - Pakistan Army

Major Abid - A hero to his last breath! Unfortunately the Pakistan Army has been the butt of Public Criticism during the last few years, but the people forget that the Pakistan Army and its valiant soldiers have always been injecting the fresh blood in the national polity by their inimitable sacrifices, be it the floods or the earthquake or the war against the enemy. Same spirit of sacrifice and valour is being exhibited in the ongoing struggle against the militants. The heroic story of Major ABID MAJEED bears testimony to this reality. On the fateful morning of May 18, 2009 Major Abid Majeeds brother Major Khalid was entrusted the task of recurring the area from Shalpalam to Jura whereas Major Abid Majeeds company was responsible for securing the area from Jura to Nazarabad. Major Khalids company successfully secured the area followed by Major Abid Majeed. Thereafter Major Abid Majeeds company was ordered to more forward. Thirteen vehicles of the company moved to safety however the last vehicle came under heavy and precise firing, near a nullah bend, by the militants. The driver of the vehicle embraced martyrdom there and then. No more movement was possible as the route was blocked. The forward troops tried to move back and rescue the trapped soldiers, however due to accurate and effective firing by the militants the movement was not possible. It was then at 1645 hrs that Major Abid Majeed decided to move back himself. He took two soldiers, the first aid kit and a water ...

RASHID MINHAS SHAHEED . NISHAN-E-HAIDER

Friday, 05 August 2005 On the morning of the 20st August 1971, a young Pilot Officer, Rashid Minhas, was due to take off in his T-33 as part of a routine training exercise. It was a "complete exercise", meaning his exercise would be unaccompanied. Two of his colleagues had already had taken off, Minhas being the last to be given the go ahead. At 1126 Rashid Minhas had also received clearance for take off and so the 20 year old began taxiing into position. Before he was given final clearance for take off, he was given a signal indicating there was a mechanical error with the plane and that he must not take off. Puzzled, Minhas immediately stopped his plane, waiting for further instruction from the person who had given the signal. It was Safety Officier Muti-ur-Rehman, a senior pilot instructor who was standing by the tarmac at the time. He was several years Rashid's senior, and was someone whom Minhas held with deep respect. Minhas opened his cockpit in order to speak to the approaching Rehman. All of a sudden, Rehman pulled out a chloroform soaked handkerchief and held it over Minhas's mouth, rendering him unconscious. Minhas was not aware that Muti-ur-Rehman was planning on defecting to Mukti Bahini, a terrorist organisation that was involved in targeting West Pakistani civilians living in East Pakistan. Rehman planned on taking over the plane, and flying it to Jodhpur, India where members of India's RAW would be able to covertly assist him in joining the Mukti Bahini ...

Surindar Kaur - Badnam Na Ho Jaye - Shaheed (1948)

***Remembering Master Ghulam Haider*** A great name in music in the history of the subcontinent. One of his biggest achievements was the discovery of two of the most popular female singers the subcontinent has ever produced, Lata Mangeshkar and our own Madam Noor Jehan. Master Ghulam Haider started his career in the 1930's and went on to achieve tremendous fame, popularity and respect in the times to come in the field of his choosing. His first film as a music composer, "Suvarg ki seehi" by Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj did not do well. Then came Punjabi film "Gul Bakaoli" by Seth Dilsukh M. Pancholi in 1938, It was a film in which a song "Shala Javanian Manein", by a ten year old Noor Jehan took Punjab y storm. But the film which could be named as being instrumental in shaping and lifting Master Ghulam Haider's careers was undoubtedly "Khazanchi". Its music changed the period of the Bengali musicians of Bombay and Calcutta. They were forced to adapt to the modern times after Khazanchi. After some time Syed Shaukat Husaain Rizvi made "Khandaan" in which Madam Noor Jehan appeared as a heroine for the first time. In this film, Master Ghulam Haider's music reached new heights as almost all the songs created waves in the subcontinent. Songs like "Mere ammi ka raaj bhala", "Panchi urh ja", "Merey liye jahan mein" were on everybody's lips in those days. And so, the success story continued. In time, he came to Lahore and started composing music for Pakistani films. Some of the films he ...
