The Shakers
The Shakers traces the growth, decline, and continuing survival of this remarkable religious sect through the memories and songs of Shaker sisters in New Hampshire and Maine. Sister Mildred Barker (1897-1990) demonstrates the song "With A New Tongue" which is first mentioned in a Sr. Mildred was the recipient of numerous awards, most notably in 1983 a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts for outstanding service to Shaker traditional music. This piece is from a 1974 production "The Shakers" by Tom Davenport and Frank DeCola. The film was made with assistance from Shaker scholar, Daniel Patterson.

Los Shakers - No Fuimos Los Shakers were a popular rock band in 1960s and was a part of the Uruguayan Invasion in Latin America. The band was formed in 1963 in Montevideo, Uruguay. They were modeled after The Beatles and even adopted similar haircuts and clothing, as can be seen in their record cover at right. The band sang many songs in English, despite their location, and gained their greatest popularity in Argentina.

The Last of the Shakers
The world's last three Shakers stand strong, proud and hopeful in this slideshow by Busted Halo's Anthony Chiorazzi. Strolling along a quiet farm road, flanked by 19th-century white clapboard buildings, Frances Carr is an endangered species in a threatened habitat. She is one of the world's last Shakers, a member of a pious separatist community that boasted 6000 members and 19 settlements in the 1800s. But today only three believers remain at the last active settlement.
