In One Voice -- Shantanu Moitra, Gayatri, Mami Varte

inktalks.com In this soulful introductory performance piece, Shantanu Moitra, the celebrated Bollywood music composer, achieves to string notes from diverse geographies to bring out the essence of The INK Conference itself. Assisting him in this endeavor is the well-known singer Gayatri and his discovery from India's Northeast region, Mami Varte. Gayatri, who is originally from Chennai, India's southern region, sings her piece in Tamil. Mami renders the same song in Mizo. Shantanu, who composed the song originally in Bengali, pulls off this cross cultural experiment beautifully. Translated, the song questions our need to discriminate when the blood that flows in our veins is the same color. TheINK Conference, in association with TED, is an annual conference that aims to fuel innovation and foster knowledge by bringing together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers from a range of disciplines such as art, architecture, dance, design, music, science, social entrepreneurship, sports and technology. INK continues the conversation that was started at TEDIndia in 2009. This year, INK journeys to Jaipur, the enchanting land of palaces, royalty and much colour. INK 2011 will be held from December 8 to 11 with an equally accomplished lineup of speakers from across the world, linked by this year's theme of Power of the Journey.
