THIS HORSES STORY In the summer of 2005, I was at a friend's yard. There was a horse for sale that I'd seen before at a show. He had a wild look in his eye and napped going to the ring but this day he really caught my attention as there was no sign of any bad temperament. He looked happy, with ears pricked forward and anxious for attention. On closer inspection, I was concerned so see how underweight and dull his coat was. The current owner, who had taken delivery a few weeks before, was very unhappy and had his blood tested and stomach scoped. The conclusion was that the high level of pain killers administered to keep him sound for sale and had led to severe stomach ulcers. This meant he could not digest his food properly and explained why he was in such poor condition. To add insult to injury, the horse also windsucked and weaved so he decided to send him back to the dealer. I thought he'd never survive the journey, so against my better judgment (at the time) I decided to buy him. If anyone told me they were buying a horse in this perilous state I would say they were mad, but I think he chose me, rather than the other way around! At first, he was frightened of his own shadow and it took time, but he soon began to trust me. After a year in the field, I rode him for the first time. As I mounted, he caught sight of the crop I was holding and bolted throwing me to the ground! After sheer determination, and the will to succeed, he took me on the most rewarding journey of my <b>...</b>

Remarkable footage of two different horses putting their feet into the middle of gigantic oxers (spread-jumps) and bouncing out, for a clean round! Scene One: PIÑON KATJA - Mark Laskin (0:40 into the video clip) 1995 Brookside Classic Scene Two: EVEREST TWOSTEP - Michael Whitaker (1:49 into the video clip) 1995 du Maurier Limited International The fence at which TwoStep performed his twostep, was the bogey of the course-- nearly all the horses who had faults throughout that course, got them on that particular fence. It was a 5'3"tall-6'6"wide oxer positioned in front of the in-gate but angled away from it. Every horse wanted to drift towards the in-gate, and if that wasn't corrected before liftoff, then they would have to jump the fence at an angle, increasing the spread that they would have to cover by a tremendous (and usually insurmountable) margin. The du Maurier truly was THE professionals' championship of the showjumping world! Had a ~LOT~ of requests for this one! The spectacular stallion Jus de Pomme is seen here winning the individual Gold metal in the 1996 Centennial Olympic games in Atlanta. Underdog of the Gold metal-winning German team, Jus de Pomme and Ulrich Kirchhoff were the only horse/rider combination to complete both rounds of the individual showjumping phase with no jumping (and only a few time) faults. Four-fault horses/riders would later compete in an exciting jumpoff; won by Switzerland's Willi Melliger (who you may recognize from the "Bareback Puissance" video) aboard Calvaro V, and followed by Alexandra Liederman aboard Rochet M, for the Silver and Bronze, respectively. The video concludes with the memorable and heartwarming victory lap, which saw Kirchhoff release Jus de Pomme to gallop freely around the Georgia International Horse Park, while he (Kirchhoff) proudly held his medal and flag for all the world to see. This is how most of the world last saw him: proud, and at the top of his game-- as this magnificent stallion died very shortly after this video was taken. This Russian-bred cavalry horse was once traded for 150 washing machines-- who knew he'd go on to become one of the most famous horses on the AGA Grand Prix showjumping scene! Here, he's seen at the Budweiser Grand Prix of Devon, putting in the first clear (not to mention fastest) round of the event, and later blasting through the jumpoff. Okay, so yeah. I'm a cowgirl all the way. And I mean, all the way. I love riding Western, I love the tack, the horses, the roughness of it, toughing out the open land as opposed to riding in the field. However, I have ALWAYS had a fascination with jumping. Even with my barrel horse I would clear jumps that didn't show how short her legs were (she loved it as much as I did). So eventually I learned to showjump myself, and competed, and even toured once, thanks to my boyfriend, and now I skim TV guides for showjumping. So now I've made a showjumping mix of the Spruce Meadows Stakes. Happy good fun times! $350000 prize - biggest purse in showjumping history. Winner is showjumper Eric Lamaze on his bay stallion Hickstead. An AMAZING horse-rider match. You can tell he loves the horse and the horse loves him. What's more is this guy can actually RIDE.
