I wanted to do a video comparing these 2. I understand I am comparing apples and oranges in a way. For my use I had originally gotten my Ipad as a netbook/sketchpad replacement. The sketching capabilities were OK but without wacom and a blunt pogo stylus it made it a bit hard to use all the time. I did a bit of research online to find a slate pc that was small like the Ipad and easy to carry with full windows (came with XP and I changed it to windows 7). With all the rage of slates coming out this year I was not sure if I wanted to dish out more money I do not have. Plus with the all the slate hype I have been seeing that the trend is to drop the stylus all together to copy the Ipad which does not work for me. I needed something that I could sketch but not have to take my larger tablet pc. I love my toshiba tablet pc, but it is heavier, takes a little while to turn on and it is a much bigger device that would not fit in my purse. When I found the Ls800 it filled the perfect niche I was after plus the price was right. If you look for motion computing ls800's on ebay you can find them for about $200+. You can also buy 12 inch models for a bit more, but I wanted small and portable. The ls800 has worked out great in combination with the Ipad. The ipad is great to surf the net, check email, do pretty much everything I did on my netbook. But I can keep both on but draw on a wacom accurate screen and save it. Finally...a slate that is worth the dollars asked. The ExoPC (which I also wrote a review about) being $800 pales in comparison to the Eee Slate which is $300 more. Based on the specs of this beast, I would say the ExoPC is overpriced by about $400. Nice machine, but just comparing specs. This device has two things that make it not quite appealing to everyone: The weight and the battery life. The weight makes it not that desirable for lengthy holding, though it is no more heavy than any of the Motion Computing tablets. IN fact, spec-wise this is comparable to the Motion J3500, it just doesn't have the same battery life (and obviously, this is because it's a lot slimmer than the Motion tablet). Contains the same Gorilla Glass which by itself makes it infinitely more valuable than any other tablet out there, but the back seems to be simple plastic rather than ruggedized, so I figure the machine could still break and you'd just have a flawless piece of glass. Who knows. On a scale of 10 I would give it an 8. Battery life and weight are the only factors holding it back. Again THIS IS NOT AN IPAD COMPETITOR. I would go out on a limb by saying this isn't even really a consumer device. I'm not sure why they put 7 Home Premium on it (64 bit Home Premium at that), because it just doesn't fit into a consumer market with the Android tablets and the iPad. My advice: Upgrade it to 7 Ultimate or Professional, and use it in a business environment as a mobile computing solution. ARE YOU <b>...</b>

In case the Nvidia press event didnt impress you enough, we decided to get a little one-on-one time with next generation Tegra-powered devices. Bill Henry, the Director of Tegra Product Management, shows off the graphical prowess of the ICD slate in this video. If that wasnt enough, I finagled a demo of the Unreal Engine running on a Tegra developer box. Not only do you see the gaming potential, but also the $399 Tegra developer kit. Id really love to hack one of them into a slate. Just as we were leaving, Rohan Shravan — Founder and Director of Notion Ink — happened to swing by, so we jumped into a small Nvidia meeting room with a prototype Notion Ink device. This slate impressed with Android running on the new Tegra and combined with the Pixel Qi screen. You can see the non-backlit, eInk-like functionality of this display which brings the total power consumption down to 0.2 Watts. Lighting wasnt great in the room, but the unit still performed admirably — enough that I offered to buy a unit on the spot. All joking aside, this combination of processor and display offers a very compelling portable Android device. After the video, we discussed input methods like software keyboards. We were told to stay tuned for some innovation in that area — perhaps all will be revealed at next months Mobile World Conference.

The Cintiq screen offers a little more color deapth, but it has less tone contrast and it is difficult to calibrate it to have neutral greys. The ASUS EP121 screen is brighter and has better contrast, but it is too desaturated by default (I increased saturation by 15 for the video). Both displays feel good to draw on. Cintiq's surface has more tooth, while ASUS surface is smoother and the glass is thinner. It is entirely a personal preference, with the biggest difference being size and portability, not quality. In my opinion, if you are trying to decide between Cintiq 21UX and ASUS EP121 you should ask yourself if you want to draw outdoors or indoors. EP121 is the obvious choice for outdoor painting, whereas you will be better served by Cintiq for professional studio work.
