www.hardknock.tv Exclusive in-depth interview with all four members of Slaughterhouse (Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5'9"). In part 1 of this interview Nick Huff Barili asks Slaughterhouse about the new album and if they are looking to make it more introspective than their previous group album, which was extremely lyrical but lacked some of the more personal insight that made them stand out as solo artists. All four members said that you can expect a lot more personal material in the album and that you have to keep in mind that their previous album had to be done in 6 days with a stripped down budget. Slaughterhouse explain how the Shady deal is different than their previous label deals and elaborate on how they see Eminem's Role in the project. While the group says that there aren't full tracks done yet for the album, some skeletals have been built and they have had Jam session with Em. While they haven't had a chance to work with Yelawolf creatively too much they have got a chance to rock a couple shows together which has helped them build a camaraderie as Shady label mates. Nick brought up Joe Buddens' twitter post about Frank Ocean's Novacane song and immediately the group started laughing. Royce says he liked the song too but didn't want to hear it 80 times in a row (Royce and Joe were roommates for the tour). Part 2 of this interview starts off with Nick Huff Barili asking Slaughterhouse about their Solo albums. Crooked talks Dollar Story, Royce: Success is Certain, Joe: The Great Escape, Joell Ortiz: currently untitled album but is in works with new label. The conversation moves on to Joell stating that he still listens to the Classics and isn't really inspired by the New Generation of rappers, though he does shout out J Cole and Wiz Khalifa. Joell makes a great point when he says that these days "People are listening to music with their eyes!" Crooked adds that new artists need to do more research on the history of hip hop. Without giving you too much of the video, just know that this interview is just getting started. As the conversation progresses Joell describes how music has allowed him to travel, which has opened his mind, including recent trip to Skid Row with Sick Jacken. Crooked talks about having to move around while he was growing up because he was raised by single mom that had 7 kids and how he hated moving as a little kid but it has now helped him become one of the most lyrical MC on the West Coast. Powermad - Slaughterhouse
Powermad formed in 1984 in Minneapolis and released an EP on Combat Records. They subsequently signed to Reprise Records and released The Madness Begins EP in 1988, a cassette-only release distributed mainly via a promotional ad featured in some of the most popular metal magazines of the era. Readers were able to clip this ad and mail it off for a free copy of the EP. Their first and only full length album to date, Absolute Power, was release in 1989. Other than a US tour opening for Overkill, a video featured on MTV of their single "Nice Dreams" and a strange cameo appearance in the bizzare David Lynch film Wild At Heart, Powermad never really achieved notable commercial success. Their albums, however, were critically acclaimed and are considered collector's items today by fans of thrash and speed metal music. They have been called "An innovative and often forgotten speed metal band...who infused progressive metal styles and European styles into abstract American speed metal." Powermad has resumed touring as of 2007 and are working on a new full-length CD to be released.
