Shooting Machetes with the Slingshot
A new challenge arose from the clouds of the youtube community: Can you shoot a machete with a slingshot? Now a machete is a very heavy weapon, and strong rubber plus a very long draw was called for. This had to be a slingshot crossbow because the rubber had to be so strong that you can not draw it out with one hand. Also the danger of hitting your hand had to be considered. The result is actually pretty impressive: The weapon sent the machete all the way up to the hilt into six layers of very thick cardboard. Try to do that by throwing a machete! No way. As big as a car: Huge Slingshot Cannon in Action
On December 30th, 2010, The Slingshot Channel presented a functional "desktop size" slingshot cannon. It fires 8 mm steel balls. Finally, the model was turned into reality! 10 times bigger than the model, it fires 80 mm steel balls now... with impressive force. The huge amount of rubber (6 full Thera Band Gold stripes per side, 72 times stronger than "hunterbands" for conventional slingshots) propels a steel boule/petanque ball fast enough so it flies 200 meters (220 yards). See how it smashes beer barrels and even a car... lots of slow motion is included. The winch allows insane draw weights. Here, more than 200 kg was employed. Full Auto: Gatling Slingshot Crossbow
Gatling guns have been the first firearms with a firing rate close to modern machine guns. Their principle is easy: A set of rotating barrels is turned by cranking a wheel, with one barrel after the other firing a round when it is in shooting position. This makes them technically and legally a repeating gun, not a full auto one - but it is close enough. The Slingshot Channel took the challenge to design a rubber powered version of Mr. Gatling's great invention. And here it is: Eight 20 mm balls, on their way to the target in less than half a second. The theoretical firing rate is 960 rounds per minute, slightly faster than the popular M16 assault rifle. The video also shows how you can fire single shots with the weapon. Ballistic Gelatine is a certified material to test the impact of bullets and other projectiles. The material simulates flesh. Three different home-made slingshots and four different types of ammo are used against a 3 kg block of gelatine. The impact is recorded with a camcorder that records 1200 frames per second (super slow motion), so it is possible to watch the impressive and devastating hits in detail.

"Will it shoot?" The Slingshot Channel tests if it possible to use an iPhone as slingshot ammo, and also what happens when a big steel ball, shot from a powerful slingshot, hits an iphone full on the touchpad. A specifically designed slingshot crossbow is employed to launch what many regard as the best cell phone in the world. You can see iPhones beeing shot at ballistic gelatin, "Mythbusters style", and also a "long range" shot, demonstrating the accuracy. No iPhone survived the tests, in the end, a "3G" model is fired flat against a house wall. This opened up the device in record time. A little bonus in the end takes care of several requests for specific gelatin tests...

The idea is not new, The Slingshot Channel brought a shotgun slingshot as early as April 2010. But since then, a lot has happened - stronger bands and the superior butterfly style allowed much heavier ammo. In 2010, .177 pellets (4,5mm) were used - now, 10 mm (.40") and even 12 mm (.47") steel balls are fired. This required a special formed pouch made from thin Kydex plastics, and also a fully protected "armored" slingshot. See the scattering of the heavy balls on a white board! Slingshot Of Mass Destruction
Slinghshots are powerful weapons. But there is a limit to their destructional capabilities, as the speed of rubber is limited - and so is the speed of the ammo. A big steel ball like the 20 mm (.79") ones used in this video will crash though wooden boards, watermelons, even coconuts. But imagine what a simultaneous impact of six of them can cause! The Slingshot Channel presents "The Avalaunche" - the first slingshot crossbow that shoots six rounds at the same time. The weapon is big and has an enormous draw length. This means the six balls hit with about 60 Joules each. Enough power to demolish several objects! As always the video contains slow motions recorded at 40x realtime (1200 fps).

Medieval Style Musket Ball Shooting Slingshot Crossbow
The Slingshot Channel has presented many slingshot crossbows already, but all have been rather long and narrow. This one is different, as it is following the medieval crossbow design by a great deal. The main differences is that rubber bands are used instead of a steel spring, and heavy lead balls are used as ammo rather than bolts. It is amazing how effective rubber is, with just 48 lbs of draw force , 38 foot pounds of energy are achieved. The 576 gr (36 gramm) lead ball (.75") flies at 177 feet per second. The Shotgun Slingshot!
Upon special request, The Slingshot Channel looked into way how to shoot shot pellets with a slingshot. Using the conventional leather pouch does not work, as the pellets fly in crazy directions. Therefore a pouch has been formed from thin Kydex (a plastic that you can form by heating it). The new pouch holds up to 50 .177 (4.5mm) lead or steel pellets. Since it does not open fully, the groups are fairly tight, which is shown in the video. This includes slow motion scenes recorded in Hi Speed (1200 frames per second). So you have to hit your target with the first shot, otherwise it takes you a few seconds to get ready again. This time, a specifically designed monster slingshot is tested against a 40mm (1,57") particle board. Even a carpenter's hammer, brought down with full force, can not punch a hole in this thick piece of wood. If it's the right one, yes it can! This video compares a store bought Trumark slingshot with the original bands against a genuine Jörg Sprave "W" slingshot, rigged up with dual Thera Band Gold bands. Both slingshots are tested against a melon, a small pumpkin, wooden planks and then against a modern brick. The hits are recorded both in real time and in super slow motion. Of course the homemade slingshot, used in Butterfly style, outperforms the Trumark by far - and yet the Trumark did a good job shooting the heavy 20mm steel balls. Vampires are fashionable right now, lots of Hollywood coverage going on. The Slingshot Channel can not ignore this important tendency in entertainment. Vampires are usually disposed off by means of a wooden stake, rammed right through the undead creature's heart. So shooting a stake is the challenge of the day. A vampire stake is no lightweight thing, many movies clearly demonstrated that a 1" rod is minimum, and penetration must be about 8 to 10 inches to be on the safe side.
