Slovenia was formerly part of the Yugoslav republic and became an independent republic on 25th June 1991. In 2004 Slovenia joined the EU. With a population of just 2 million it is one of Europe's smallest nations covering an area of less than 21000 square km's. Bordered by Austria, Italy, Hungary, Croatia and the Adriatic sea, Slovenia contains a diverse countryside with mountains, vineyards, lakes and it's own stretch of Adriatic coastline. Over half the country is forested making it one of Europe's greenest nations.

Storm chaser Marko Korosec recorded a time-lapse movie of explosive, deep convection on September 12th, 2011. Marko says this was a very rare event for so late in the season in Slovenia. Very rich boundary layer moisture and cold mid levels created a great environment for explosive convection in SW Slovenia; wind field/shear was very low, so pulsating multi-cell storms were occurring throughout the day! Outsider is a film produced in 1997 in Slovenia by writer and director Andrej Košak. The film takes place in the 1980 in the former Yugoslavia. It covers issues such as the former yugoslav punk scene and drug use in the year when Josip Broz Tito died. The story begins in autumn 1979 when Sead Mulahasanović, whose father was a Warrant Officer (zastavnik) of Yugoslav People's Army moved to Ljubljana and started attending one of the local secondary schools. He immediately joined local punkers who formed a band. Because punk rock in Yugoslavia was not tolerated some of them quickly fell into trouble. Authorities were on high alert because Tito got seriously ill and was admitted to University Medical Centre Ljubljana. Sead spent a lot of time with his new friends because his father was devoted only to the army and wanted Sead to join the army school to become the Officer or the pilot. Sead fell in love with Metka, a girl from his class, so he also began spending his time with her. Then several things occurred: one of his friends was beaten by the Police and put to prison, he was punished by his father for not being devoted enough to the ideas of socialism, Metka got pregnant and they were again forced to move, so Sead should leave his life behind and start it anew. He didn't hold out any more and committed a suicide - coincidently it happened on the day when Tito died.

Bright unidentified flying objects (UFOs) over Ptuj, Slovenia on 13th of August 2011 around 23:45h - 23:50h. First there were eight of them, but in the time I grabbed the camera and started shooting three of them vanished. I don't know how long had been these objects present before I saw them. Of course I wasn't prepared to take a proper shot - I didn't have a video camera at my hand, so I used a photo camera Canon EOS 7D and lens Sigma 17-70 mm f/2.8-4.5. I zoomed and focused manually, I had no tripod or stabilizer and no time to set up the camera properly. I decided to publish this footage after I found out there were many scenes like this captured on video during last few months in places all over the world (Toronto - Canada, Ghajnsielem Gozo - Malta (2. 9. 2011), Rome - italy (20. 8. 2011), Bronx - New York (26. 8. 2011), Laredo - Texas (25. 8. 2011), Tarragona - Spain (18. 8. 2011) and others... It's really hard to tell what this objects are - that's why they're called UNIDENTIFIED flying objects. Although it's not excluded that these are baloons or lanterns - I have no reliable information of such event (yet). In that case I'll rename this video to "Lanterns over Ptuj" ;)

Slovenia Recognizes Libya's NTC On July 20 in Benghazi, Libya, the National Transitional Council received recognition by Slovenia as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people. This recognition comes at a time when Libyan rebels battled pro-Muammar Qaddafi forces in Misrata on July 20. The rebels were trying to win control over the key town of Zlitan, located on the road leading to the capital Tripoli. The wounded arrived at a rebel field hospital near Dafniyah. Rebel medics said that pro-Qaddafi militiamen were also treated at the hospital. On the same day, the rebel Foreign Minister, Ali Al Essawi, said that a delegation headed by Slovenia's State Secretary recognized the National Transitional Council. Al Essawi: "We welcome this visit by the Slovenian State Secretary. Slovenia was one of the first states to invite us to visit its government, but our engagements have prevented us from visiting them. Today, Slovenia recognized the National Transitional Council as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people. Slovenia provides us with medical aid, as well as sending a medical delegation to treat our sick and injured. Slovenia has declared its support for the Libyan people, by political means and humanitarian commitments."
