In 2005 at Spa I qualified on row 7 in a Caterham MegaGrad (the fastest Class) out of 65 cars. The car wouldnt start at first, so I eventually started by bump starting it down the slight hill after everyone had passed me on the grid. It led to some interesting overtaking moves! Easy at first as the backmarkers were slower than me, becoming more difficult as I caught up quicker cars... from: "Solar Noise" (1997) Improvisational ambient duo Viridian Sun was formed in Portland, OR in 1996 by guitarist David Tollefson and synth player M. Griffin. Both their 1997 debut Solar Noise and its 1999 follow-up Perihelion were released on Griffin's own Hypnos label. Distillation is a process which yields the most potent result; Solar Noise then, having been condensed from more than 7 hours of live, exploratory musical improvisation between Mike Griffin's electronics and David Tollefson's treated guitar, is a 100 proof blend of deep celestial ambience. But this was no ordinary jam session either... the synths and guitar are very heavily processed. You'll only occasionally hear an indentifiable "keyboard" or "guitar" sound. What you most often hear is the sonic equivalent of the swirling vapors of some fantastic otherworld. This Solar Noise emanates from a dark and mysterious star. The intoxicating atmospheres begin with solan solar n sol; like the other tracks, the piece is a long, beatless interlude in another realm of sound. Haunting and calming in turns, the track covers much alien terrain. Deep swells intermingle with insectoid chatter, echoes ring across space, mutated plinks twirl in circuitous arpeggios, a momentary lull is shattered by a whirling interjection of sound, until all fades. Viridian Sun's atmospheric soundwaves are interesting assemblage of space-ambience. The subtly shifting darkness creates a deep celestial immersion in your own living area <b>...</b>

It's Mushroom Time In Solan!
Mushroom farming provides alternative livelihood to farmers in Indian, Himachal Pradesh, helps bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. Pratibha Rolta tells us of a growing trend in farming sector in her district Solan where people are adopting farming of mushroom, earlier afforded only by the rich. The growing production has also created jobs for hundreds in mushroom farms. In Himachal Pradesh, as well as in most places of India, mushrooms are largely seen as the food of the privileged. Even hotels and restaurants mushroom is used sparingly and if one travels to smaller towns, especially in restaurants where customers are from lower income group, the menu doesn't include mushroom. In fact Gucchii -- one of the rarest varieties of mushroom - was found only in the forests of Himachal Pradesh. But it's high cost kept it out of reach of people with modest income. So mushroom has been a costly delicacy and a status symbol. However, in and Solan this is set to become a thing of past as hundreds of farmers are now growing mushroom. So, the once-coveted edible fungi is fast becoming everybody's food, reaching the plates of common consumers. There are about 806 mushroom farms right now in Solan -- the reason why in 1997 it was named 'Mushroom City of India'. Popularity of mushroom farming is also becoming a great alternative livelihood for thousands of unemployed and poor of the farming communities.
