Here was another thunderstorm to wander into southeast Ohio Dear Viewer! All due to an approaching Cold Front. I was in the main parking area here at the Lamping Homestead Recreation Area and then I heard the sound of rain.....I ran back to camp!!!!!

Although Zanesville is now famous for its wild animal excape, it is also home to one of the best wildlife conservation areas in the country. The Columbus zoo has a close working relationship with the Wilds, a 10000 acre animal conservation center located in southeast Ohio The wilds is North America's largest conservation facility and located about 24 miles southeast of Zanesville. The Columbus Zoo is the country's top rated zoo. It is one of the world's largest state-of-the-art wild life conservations and home to rare and endangered species from around the world and hundreds of indigenous species. The animals live in a natural, open-range habitat where they roaming just as they would in the wild. AEP reclaimed the area from coal-mining lands in southeast Ohio. It once contained the world's largest shovel. "Big Muskie" was the World's Largest Earth Moving Machine. What remains now is a monstrous metal bucket, The recent disaster here occurred on October 19, when Sheriff's deputies shot 48 animals that belonged to Terry Thompson, who opened the animal's cages and then committed suicide. The buffalo herd in the video may have belonged to Thompson.

Mascots from the 35 Southeastern Ohio schools who participated in IMPACT 2011 have a dance off during the event on April 8, 2011 at the Ohio University Convocation Center. IMPACT 2011 was presented by Prom Pledge, Impact, Inc., a non-profit organization that was founded for the purpose of saving lives. In its fifth year, IMPACT 2011 provided the opportunity for over 7000 high school juniors and seniors from all over the Southeast Ohio area to listen to motivational speakers who will present a sobering look at what can happen when poor choices are made. Lily Fest is more than just a lily festival. Situated in the hocking hills of southeast Ohio, the festival offers visitors a look at some of nature's most beautiful flowers: lilies. Lily Fest provides a unique marriage of art festival, music festival and flowers of all shapes and sizes. Lily Fest is usually held the first weekend after July 4th. This is just a glimpse of what Rt 124 looked like after a EF-3 tornado with winds estimated at 160 + mph came down through the area. Some say the path was 300 yds wide. This thing stayed on the ground for a very long time. It went through 4 counties! Athens county, Meigs county Wood county and Wirt County. It missed our hill.. We rarely have little skipping tornadoes in these areas...let alone Big ones that do this much damage. I am hoping for a very speedy recovery for all those who have felt the impact of this disaster.

Christian, the dawg, and me backpacking on the Shawnee Backpack Trail in the Shawnee State Forest in southeast Ohio. Christian was a machine and easily handled everything the trail had to throw at us - 93 degF heat, 1000% humidity with dead-still sauna-like air, brutally steep non-switchbacked climbs/descents, un-maintained bushwacking trails, and tick nirvana (but he didn't really enjoy the rattlesnakes!). But I'll readily admit that the trail gave J-dawg and I a rear-end whoopin' we won't soon forget.

Here I am Dear Viewer inside my USMC Combat Tent. All the while the low pressure system that affected the greater part of the Midwest finally pushed it's eway to southeast Ohio. Much of the "punch" of this particuliar storm system was dissipated. The worse theis storm produced was some rain and a some winds, though nothing in the severe category. :((
