It is the custom for three teams each to fight two bulls. After the ceremonial parade the sport commences with the entry of the chosen bull and this is then teased by the Cuadrillas and the Matador joins in with his cape to test the qualities of the bull. The mounted Picadors are next to enter and weaken the bull in the neck with their picas and join those on foot whom plant their bandillas. When the time is right and the bull's head is sufficiently bowed the Matador takes center stage. Using proud sweeps of the cape coupled with the expected artistic use of the body the crowd is duly entertained. Finally the Matador must stab swiftly and cleanly the heart of the bull to cause immediate death. Unfortunately, this end result is not always perfectively achieved and the Matador can quickly suffer the displeasure of the spectators by being booed. A good performance receives the ultimate acclaim of the bull's ears and tail. Apparently the bull is treated like royalty up until the fight. That said, I still think it's a bit cruel to prolong the bulls death for the duration of the bullfight, as well as just doing this for sport. Spanish-style bullfighting is called a corrida de toros (literally a "running of bulls"), or fiesta brava. In traditional corrida, three toreros, also called matadores or, in French, toréadors, each fight two out of a total of six fighting bulls, each of which is at least four years old and weighs up to about 600 kg/1300 lb (with a minimum weight limit of 460 kg/1000 lb for the bullrings of the first degree). Bullfighting season in Spain runs from March to October. The fights that attract most spectators are the ones held during a Fiesta patronal, named ferias taurinas. I took a trip in Spain on April 2011 and we decided to go and watch a bullfighting or a "toreo" as they call it in Spain...This took place in "Plaza de Toros" in Madrid. This part is only the beginning where,they are trying to irritate the animal.You can see the horseback,who stabs the bull with a long spear.The last thing before the main matador comes is the stabbing with the small spears. Unfortunately,I didn't taped the part where they kill the bull! Hope you enjoy. (FYI,I'm with the bull!)

Catalonia bans bullfighting. In a landmark vote in the Catalan parliament in Barcelona, lawmakers voted 68-for to 55-against the ban. The prohibition marks the first time the centuries old blood sport is outlawed in a mainland region of Spain. Outside parliament, pro and anti bullfighting demonstrators gathered to voice support for their respective camps. When news of the ruling filtered through, animal rights activists were delighted. But Muslims want to turn the most famous arena, the Coliseum, into a giant mosque. In fact, some cities in Spain now look more like the Middle East. Muslims, who once ruled most of nation, are returning in large numbers. In the city of Salt, parents have come to pick up their children from school. Muslims already make up 40 percent of city residents and will soon be the majority. But the city government has pushed back, placing a one-year hold on a large mosque project funded by radical Wahhabis in Saudi Arabia. For good measure, someone cursed the ground at the building site with a pig head that was still there when CBN News arrived. Islamic law forbids the building of a mosque on ground soiled by pigs. But the number of Muslims in Salt is increasing so rapidly, it is now only a matter of time before Muslims will be running the city. "When the first Muslim political party presents itself, all the Muslims will vote for it, and we'll all end up wearing headscarves. Many people feel passionately about the sport, saying it is part of their culture of heritage. But with about 9000 bulls being killed in the country each year, many others have questioned whether bullfighting should continue. It is the end of the bull-fighting season and that means the end for the sport for ever in Catalonia. It will be outlawed by legislation that comes into force on the first of January, 2012. 180 thousand Catalans signed the petition asking the regional government to make bullfighting illegal. By voting it in in June 2010, Catalonia followed in the footsteps of the Canary Islands, which outlawed the controversial tradition in 1991.
