WARM WELCOME FOR THE PRESIDENT FROM THE LANKAN COMMUNITY IN AUSTRALIA Posted on 26 October 2011. President Rajapaksa, now in Perth to attend the Commonwealth Summit, meets the Sri Lankan Community in Australia. The President's meeting with the Sri Lankans took place at the Winthrop Hall of the University of Western Australia yesterday. The get-together was organized jointly by the Sri Lankan High Commission and seven Sri Lankan Cultural Organizations in Australia. The President was accorded a very warm reception on his arrival for this meeting. The President's entourage, including First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa also joined in this occasion. The Sri Lankans in Australia greatly appreciated the task discharged by President Rajapaksa in uprooting terrorism from their motherland. The gathering was arranged to support the President against the false propaganda launched by LTTE loyalists against their country. Two Australians aborigines aired their views supporting the President. A notable feature was the welcome speeches delivered by Sri Lankan children in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Thereafter addressing the Sri Lankans, the President said that, he who took the initiative to develop the country after its liberation from the tigers, received appreciations in addition to accusations. He queried whether he was coming under fire in this manner for making Sri Lanka the only country to uproot terrorism. The President expressed his thanks to the Australian Prime Minister and the ...
