Unwed Sailor/Early Day Miners/Chris Bennett/Stateless
Track: Chandelier A collaborative project between the bands UNWED SAILOR and EARLY DAY MINERS with photographer CHRIS BENNETT. Photographer Chris Bennett traveled the US and Europe over the course of 4 years, documenting it all on Super 8 film. He eventually took all the footage and edited it together to make a 31 minute film of some of the most beautiful scenaries from around the world. From a hustling city streets filmed from a tour bus to the sureal sunset over the waters of the south, this film takes the viewer on his journeys. One spring weekend the members of Unwed Sailor and Early Day Miners collaborated, in Grotto Home Studios with instruments, a tv, and a vcr. Using the images that Bennett had captured as inspiration, they wrote what woud become a soundtrack to STATELESS. Packaged together on one CD is the film and the music. The films and music may be watched as they were intended, using the Quicktime file, or the cd may be listened to on a stereo, either way its an amazing project.

Although some stateless people are refugees, many have never crossed a border or left their country of birth. Although the problems related to statelessness may manifest themselves differently, at the root is a group of people who have been denied a legal identity. A stateless person is not recognized as a citizen by any state. Citizenship enables you not only to vote, hold public office, and exit and enter a country freely, but also to obtain housing, health care, employment, and education. Citizenship is necessary in order to live a decent human life. Stateless people are denied that right.
