(EURL) cutecatfaith.com Marcel Storr (1911-1971) was given up by his mother, father unknown, and was beaten so badly in care, he lost his hearing. He was illiterate and institutionalized often, likely schizophrenic. He worked menial jobs in and around Paris, France, and after his wife died, his stepchildren left, and he went into decline, moving to Saint-Denis, where I now live. His naïve, self-taught, "hidden" art survives only because he gave it to a couple for safekeeping shortly before his death in a psychiatric hospital. His "secret methods" seem to have included using a hot iron on varnished works, and sometimes this prevented him from coloring in all the works -- if he bought the wrong materials or his methods failed, he couldn't finish the work as planned. They seem textured, as he pressed into cardboard. They have a glowing, psychedelic quality, and the details are often so tiny, some of the works (not these shown) were enlarged and drymounted so we can see the details better. The museum is called Pavillon Carré de Baudouin and is at 121, rue de Ménilmontant, 75020 Paris. The métro is GAMBETTA. It is open from 11 am until 6 pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays.
